We wanted to share a quick update regarding the upcoming ribbon-cutting. The event is being moved to February to give the artist team the time they need to fully complete the installation.

We’re excited about what’s coming and want to be sure everything is just right for the community. The new date will be shared as soon as it’s finalized.

NC MedAssist operates the The OTC Free Store (formally known as the Gerhart Community Medicine Shoppe). They provide free over-the-counter medicine, vitamins, medical supplies, and more to North Carolina residents at no cost. There are no eligibility requirements to shop in the store. Simply register and shop!

Starting Tuesday, January 6, the OTC Free Store will transition to new store hours:
Tuesday & Thursday | 9:00 — 12:30 & 1:00 — 4:00
The OTC Free Store will be closed on the following dates in observance of the upcoming holidays:

Friday, December 26
Friday, January 2
Monday, January 5

North Carolina Community Foundation Scholarships are available for students from all 100 counties, including non-traditional students, and for students attending all types of institutions, including community colleges. The application cycle closes on March 3, 2026. We partner with donors to administer scholarships for students across the state. Most NCCF scholarships open for applications on Dec. 16, 2025, and close on March 3, 2026.

The Gaston County Emergency Management and Fire Services is currently offering free smoke alarm assistance for residents who do not have a working smoke alarm in their home. This program is designed to help keep our community safe and prevent fire-related injuries.
