The season of gratitude and appreciation is a special time when residents express heartfelt thanks to the dedicated and hardworking staff members of Covenant Village. Now through December 4, residents, family members, and friends of Covenant Village take the opportunity to acknowledge the creativity, compassionate care, and professionalism that staff consistently demonstrate throughout the year. It’s a reminder of the positive impact staff have on residents’ lives and the value of a supportive community.

Established by residents in 1982, the Workforce Investment/Staff Bonus Fund is an annual opportunity for residents to express their gratitude to Covenant Village employees in a tangible way. Since tipping is not allowed at Covenant Village, the bonus fund underscores a shared commitment to valuing staff and nurturing a compassionate, high-performing team during this meaningful season of thanksgiving and appreciation.

You can donate to the Workforce Investment/Staff Bonus Fund through December 4. Mail or deliver your check to “Covenant Village” with Workforce Investment/Staff Bonus in the memo to the Business Office. Or donate online at covenantvillagenc.com/giving-form.

(Watch the Chicken Chat video) During her work week at Covenant Village, Wanda Flowers is highly focused on helping residents improve their physical health. As Director of Covenant’s ARISE Wellness, Wanda is often seen in the gym, exercise room, and around the pool, encouraging residents to stay active.

Away from work, Wanda is equally focused on her main hobby: raising chickens. On Thursday afternoon, November 13, a standing-room-only crowd of residents in the Assembly Room learned more about Wanda’s dedication to her chickens—an interest that became her passion two years ago.

Along with fun facts about chickens, highlights of Wanda's Chicken Chat presentation included resident Stephanie Parent leading the group in the chicken dance and Mary Layton’s generosity in providing chicken headbands.

Wanda’s presentation is part of a series of Employee Spotlight events that will be held during the annual resident-led campaign to raise funds for the Workforce Investment/Staff Bonus, formerly called the Employee Appreciation Fund.

As we approach the close of another remarkable year at Covenant Village, we pause with full hearts to reflect on all we’ve shared, all we’ve accomplished, and all that awaits us. This has been a year of movement—of bold steps forward, quiet acts of service, and visionary planning—all rooted in a culture of grace and gratitude.

Members of our leadership team attended the disaster preparedness summit, a LeadingAge North Carolina event hosted and presented by Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community. The Deerfield team shared strategies for going through and growing through crises from the lessons they learned after the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene in 2024. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from them.
