Recovery in Motion: Powered by Care, Commitment and Love.
When Ruth Gradert arrived at Allure of Geneseo Skilled Therapy around Valentine’s Day 2025, she was facing general weakness and balance challenges that made everyday activities difficult. What she found here, however, was far more than a place to regain strength — it was a community that helped her rediscover confidence, routine, and connection.
During her stay, Ruth participated in both physical and occupational therapy, working closely with knowledgeable, friendly, and encouraging therapists. Her therapy sessions included time on the NuStep, exercises in the parallel bars, and progressive strength training with dumbbells and a weighted bar that gradually increased as she grew stronger. Each step forward was carefully guided and celebrated by the therapy team.
Support extended well beyond the gym. Ruth’s husband, Wayne, visited almost every day, providing steady encouragement. During her stay, Wayne not only offered constant support, but also learned how to do laundry and cook for himself while Ruth was away — a small but meaningful part of their shared journey. Ruth was also surrounded by love from friends, neighbors, church friends, and received cards and visits from her adult children and grandchildren.
In the therapy gym, Ruth found camaraderie as well as motivation. “Everyone encourages each other,” she shared. Some people were there for short-term rehabilitation, while others lived at the center and continued to work out to stay strong and maintain their ability to perform activities of daily living. The shared goal of staying active made it easy to get to know one another and form friendships.
By June, Ruth was ready to return home — a milestone that marked months of dedication and progress. But her journey with Allure of Geneseo didn’t end there. With Wayne’s help, Ruth now comes back five times a week to maintain her routine, continue building strength, and stay independent.
Reflecting on her experience, Ruth simply said, “Things went well. The girls are all special.” Along the way, she gained not only physical strength, but also lasting friendships and a renewed sense of perseverance.
At Allure of Geneseo Skilled Therapy, Ruth’s story is one of many that show how personalized care, expert therapy, and genuine human connection can make all the difference.
