Wellness Wednesday
I'm going to talk again about grief. Let's talk about how we can help ourselves process our loss. We talk about self care, but this means different things to everyone. Some people are so consumed by the grief that it helps to have something to distract themselves, while others prefer having some time to sit in quiet thought. When trying to deal with strong emotions it is helpful to listen to our bodies and minds. What does it need. Do you need to cry, keep moving, sleep...don't fight all those emotions but let them sit "ride the wave" as they say. They will most likely feel pretty yucky but you mind needs time and space to really process everything it is feeling so it can learn to move on with this new empty space it now carries. I tell clients all the time...time doesn't heal anything, it just allows us to learn to be comfortable with the hole we now carry with us, the new scar so to speak.

Manic Monday
Today we are going to ignore the hustle around us as another week starts. I want to touch on loss. Specifically sudden loss. We usually think of a death when we hear this, although it doesn't always have to be that. It could be the loss of a job unexpectedly, or changing plans due to outside circumstances and not by choice.
The big difference here is that usually you have to first acknowledge the shock and trauma that you experience when it is sudden. You hear a lot of times that "it doesn't seem real", "I feel like they are going to walk through that door". It can make it harder to go through the grieving process when we have to start by remembering the loss in the first place. But the process can still be the same...Focus on your self care, make sure you find a good support system, and allow yourself time. There is no right way to grieve or length of time. Give your heart and soul the time and care it needs to be able to accept this loss and learn to move on without it.

Wellness Wednesday

Almost forgot to post today...so in light of the hour...let's talk sleep. It is highly recommended to get at least 8 hours of sleep a night. But this can be really hard, depending on work schedules, homework amounts, and other obligations...not to mention people who have trouble sleeping. So what can you do to help improve what we call your sleep hygiene.
1. Keep to a routine, your circadian rhythm, while it is somewhat set, can be adjusted over time. So if you are structured with the time you go to bed and more importantly the time you wake up, you can reprogram your cycles.
2. You need to prep your body for sleep by lowering lights a couple of hours prior to the time you want to go to bed, a warm shower and scent of lavender can help relax you as well.
3. Interestingly enough, getting sunlight first thing in the morning is almost more impactful with helping you fall asleep, so open those blinds or better yet go for a walk, getting those natural rays and some exercise first thing in the morning are beneficial on so many fronts.
4. You should sleep in complete darkness, you should barely be able to see your outstretched hand. This of course might not be an option for everyone, but keeping your room as dark as possible for you is the most beneficial.
With that being said...screens off, lights out...Good night

Manic Monday

The idea of "fitting in" is about changing who you are to fit into a group...But "Belonging" is about being accepted for who you truly are. As humans we are programed to be social, so it can be hard when we feel left out. But try to remember these important tips
1. Fitting in is mediocre and belonging is exceptional...Conformity can prevent you from reaching your true potential
2. Nobody likes to lose their voice...trying to fit in can hold you back from speaking up, especially when things don't align with your values
3. "If the slipper fits"....forcing yourself to fit into something that isn't you can be uncomfortable and eventually even cause pain.
One of my favorite quotes...which I truly try to live by, is by Harry Winston..."People will stare, make it worth their while"
