The hardest thing about growing up I think, is realizing how different things are from your expectations of what it was supposed to be. That life we dream of and worked hard to build doesn't always turn out the easy we pictured it. This can cause us to feel like we haven't achieved our goals or accomplished things. You need to change your perspective and look at all you have done.

Wellness Wednesday
Sleep is so very important, we joke about it but there is so much research out there telling us that we really should focus more on getting a good night sleep through out our lives. It helps strengthen the immune system, regulate hormones, repair tissue, consolidate memories, and even lowers the risk of heart disease and diabetes.
Ways to improve your sleep...
1. Maintain a regular sleep schedule (go to sleep and wake up at the same time every day.
2. Keep your bedroom cool, dark, and quiet
3. Avoid screens prior to bedtime
4. Start to wind down about a hour before you want to fall asleep

My favorite thing to celebrate! It's National Dog Day!...Although anyone who knows me knows that my dogs have national dog day everyday (they are my favorites).
There are so many benefits of having a dog. You have improved physical health because they get you moving and exercising. They lower your stress level and reduce loneliness. They improve your social connection (I actually did a research study on dog owners versus cat owners striking up conversations with strangers). I mean there are so many I can't make this post that long.
And if you are thinking you want a best friend then there are thousands of amazing dogs waiting in rescues and shelters for a person just like you to give them a great home. In return they will improve so many aspects of your life.

It's just another Manic Monday. School is in full swing, the lazy dog days of summer are officially over. But you don't have to feel the rush all the time. Some techniques to help you Slow Down.
1. Do one task at a time, focus on a single task, complete it, then move on.
2. Take a break, especially outside with nature, step outside, take a deep breath, and just pause
3. Focus on a calming nighttime routine, not only one that prepares for the next morning (to avoid feeling rushed and hectic again tomorrow) but also to calm down your system and prepare yourself for a good night sleep. This could include a nice bath, reading, meditating. We all know to avoid tech at night so try to stay away from TV and phones.

FEEL GOOD FRIDAY!!!

It's about time you prioritized yourself! Taking the dogs for a hike, Having a spa day, Hanging out with friends, Movie nights, Campfires...These are a few of my favorite things...Take some time to put together your list of things that make you happy and make sure that you check some of them off this weekend.

Top 5 things that improve your mental wellbeing
1. Connect to others, whether it's family, friends, or coworkers get out there and socialize.
2. Be active, the American Heart Association recommends 30 min a day, so go for a walk, run, swim, anything...just get moving
3. Keep Learning, Use it or Lose it comes to mind here, our brain loves to stay active and challenged.
4. Give, pay it forward, give back to the community, do something for someone else, you will feel good about yourself because you helped someone or something. Anyone interested in fostering an animal I might know someone...lol)
5. Focus on the present, what is in front of us and in our control at the moment. Take time to smell the roses so to speak. Life moves fast so make sure you don't miss any of it.
