Anyone else see that meme " Before I had kids I thought I had a good immune system... Turns out I was just good at staying away from people who sneeze into my eyeball"... This came to mind as my 3 year old got about 2 inches from my face before coughing on me. So let's talk immunity... While we can't take things to prevent a cold we can help our body be prepared to fight things off. Zinc and vitamin C are well known for helping to boost your immune system. But don't forget to stay hydrated and well rested. Those are just as important factors. The best way to stay healthy is to keep our bodies in top fighting condition so get a good night sleep, eat your veggies, and don't forget to exercise. And if a young child gets close to your face..DUCK!

We went from mountains of snow to nothing... Just in time for Christmas 😡. I can't remember the last time we had a white Christmas. Now don't get me wrong, I appreciate the warm up, I'm not a fan of the 5 degree temp we had this past weekend either and neither were my dogs. So I'm reminded by mother nature yet again to practice my Distress Tolerance and learn to accept my emotions as I can't always choose how I feel about a situation. Acknowledge the discomfort it causes but remember that it will pass. And think about what I can control, like how I react to this feeling. I will look for the positive and while I will be annoyed by the mud and dead grass I will not let it ruin my day.

Less than two more weeks until Christmas. We are fostering some kittens this year and so far they have knocked down the kids little trees many times and chewed through the wire of a big tree (thank God my husband is one of those handy can fix anything guys). While I love Christmas and the holiday season I am definitely ready for the calmness/ quiet of January 1st. It's the idea of looking ahead that thought that if I can just get through this moment it will get easier that gets us through life. It helps to have things to look forward to and remind ourselves that the situation we are currently in is only temporary and we can make adjustments along the way to control the trajectory of our future. I, for one, am going to try not to foster kittens next Christmas.. Maybe wait until the trees are all put away.
These are my foster kittens. However, in case anyone would like to give them a forever home while they are still in there, curious and explorative kitten phase, they're actually very good cats and would love a home of their very own for Christmas

Wellness Wednesday

Let's talk Meditation...There are so many ways you can meditate, it is not just sitting in a candle filled room with incense and zen music...It could be pausing your day to take some deep breaths. Doing some breathing exercises and saying some positive affirmations in the morning. Even sitting in a room with candles listening to Enya...Whatever works for you you should try to incorporate it into your daily routine. There are so many benefits to routine meditation...we all hear about how it reduces stress, anxiety, and depression...but did you know that it can also increase focus, calm your nervous system, and help with emotional regulation. Look up some different types of mediation and starting trying to find one that works best for you.

Rumor has it it's supposed to be a really cold winter this year...I am not okay...I hate the cold..."hate, hate, hate, double hate, loathe entirely". So I will be using some tropical beach guided imagery and starting to plan a vacation somewhere warm. When we struggle with the place we are currently in it is helpful to find things to look forward to, or if possible create things to look forward to. It helps us get through the yucky parts and gives us something to dream about.

Run Run Rudolph, Santa's gotta make it to town
Santa make him hurry, tell him he can take the freeway down

Feeling rushed? Holiday pressure? We have been hearing a lot lately about trying not to rush kids as it can lead to anxiety when they are older. But what about our anxiety? What about our pressure to get everyone ready on time, and make sure that we don't forget anything? Schools have started their "fun" holiday count down with something festive every day for us to remember to remind our kids about. I hope you found all your holiday sweaters, and socks, and hats...don't forget theme days and wacky hair or something. How do you manage?
BOUNDARIES...That famous word everyone throws around now a days. But this isn't something you can force onto someone else...It is you making the decision of what works for you and what doesn't...Finding out what to say no to...We don't have to do it all and sometimes we need to just say "Not Today Santa!" and stay under the blankets for an extra 10 min.

Feel Good Friday
I don't know about your house be we are counting down the days until Christmas! We are now 2 weeks away from Christmas Break and 20 days away from the big guy making his rounds. Today I'm channeling my Buddy the Elf..."Santa! Oh my god! Santa's here! I know him!"

Wellness Wednesday
It's hard to not rot away on the couch in front of the tv when the weather turns cold. But it's important to stay active and engaged, even more so as we are dealing with shorter days and lack of sunlight.
This is a great time to start trying out new hobbies or activities. I am a huge fan of puzzles and usually treat myself to a couple new puzzles right about now.
Also focus on keeping a positive mindset, a great way to work on this is to keep a gratitude journal or get in the habit of saying at least one or two positive affirmations every morning.

Giving Tuesday
We spent last week being thankful for what we had. Then Friday the stores were thankful for what we gave them...Today is the day we step back and give to those that need it the most...Find an organization that has a purpose you hold dear to your heart. Whether it's donating money, or time, or supplies, these organizations are always so grateful for what we can spare for them so they can continue on their mission. At Inspiring Wellness we donated towards Kat and Kritters Foundation's Home for the Holidays Event. They run this event from Nov 1st through Dec 31st, and they raise money to help cover the adoption fees of their long term fosters so that they might find a home for Christmas. They have raised $1600 so far and are $500 away from their goal. 18 animals have their adoption fees waived now. If you would like to donate to this amazing organization let us know..We will match any donations that come through us! Email them at kakf3133@gmail.com and tell them Inspiring Wellness sent you!
