For those of you who think (and some have eagerly expressed) that the rider does nothing, just sits in the saddle while the horse does all the work..
Here are stats anyone who wears a fitness device can understand
In a 5 hour training session we, the riders,
did the equivalent of 29,900 steps and 11 miles, we spent more than 101 minutes in the peak performance zone, we burned 2800 calories and completed a workout equivalent to climbing 43 flights of stairs.
All of that during our trail ride. Before and after that ride we moved hay bales, emptied the trailers, fed and cleaned horses, loaded horses into the trailer, unloaded horses at our destination, tacked horses to ride, rode, repeat.
Our hands hurt, our feet hurt, our butts hurt, our necks get stiff…but we ride on. That’s why it’s called endurance …you have to endure.
It’s not for woosies, we love it, we laugh a lot, we have fun! We feel so lucky.
