The final dimension of the 7 Dimensions of ABA that we will be discussing is "Effective". We, as ABA professionals, record and track behavior data every session. Therefore, we need to ask ourselves, "Is this treatment/intervention proven to be effective?" "Does this have a positive impact on this person's life?" "By using this technique, are we changing their life for the better?" and “Can the change be seen by those who are less informed about the intervention/treatment?”

Today, we will be discussing another one of the 7 Dimensions of ABA called “Applied”. Applied simply confirms that the s...

Another dimension of the 7 Dimensions of ABA is Technological. This refers to the way behavior intervention plans are written and applied. The interventions should be clear, concise, and easy to replicate by all, kind of like a recipe! Each individualized treatment plan must have a step-by-step guide that anyone can duplicate, with little knowledge about the person.

Another principle in the 7 Dimensions of ABA is Analytic. This term refers to the process of collecting data, then using that data to make decisions based on the progress of each client’s goals. Another of the 7 Dimensions of ABA that we will be discussing is Generality. When we target behaviors, the goal is to create durable and long lasting behavior changes. We want them to continue (or generalize) across time, people and appearing in a variety of environment to other related behaviors.

The first of the 7 Dimensions of ABA that we will discuss is “Behavioral”. This is one way we can evaluate the quality of our work. “Behavior must be observable and measurable in order for it to be changed. If we can observe and see behavior, we can measure it with data, and then we can change it. (Gilmore, 2019)” In ABA, we seek to increase desired behaviors and decrease problem behaviors. When we see a change in behavior, we also have to evaluate how this impacts the person’s life. We analyze our data to determine progress, as our goal will ultimately be to improve their independence.
