Huge congrats to our rockstar intern, Dr. Carpenter, and her husband on their soon-to-arrive little one! Happy Friday! 😎 Let’s kick off the weekend with our final Intern Spotlight! Last but certainly not least meet…

Name: ⭐️ Dr. Luis Rivas, MD ⭐️

Hometown: Chicago, IL 📍

Medical school: Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine 💜

Hobbies: Composing/arranging, singing, watching cartoons, playing video geames 🎮🎶

Fun fact: I majored in music in college. My senior project was singing art songs in several languages — English, Spanish, French, Italian, and German 🇮🇹🇩🇪🇫🇷🇪🇸

Current obsession: Magic The Gathering — they recently came out with a special Sonic the Hedgehog set 🦔

Why you chose Delnor: I enjoyed working with the wonderful attendings and residents at Delnor during my student rotation. From the start, I felt readily accepted into their program as part of the family. I want to help make this program feel like home for future students and residents, just as it did for me 💜🤍

⭐️ Dr. Ali Hussain, DO⭐️

Hometown: Saginaw, Michigan

Medical School: Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM)

Hobbies: Racket sports, basketball, board games, barbecuing

Fun Fact: I have a masters in nutrition

Current obsession: Trying new food spots and rating them on Beli!

Why you chose Delnor:
The vibes: speaking to different residents reaffirmed to me that Delnor had supportive faculty and residents who genuinely care about your wellbeing and learning while keeping things light hearted.
The location: lots of cool stuff to do in the area. I’m also close to friends and family, and it’s easy to go explore the city on off days.
The curriculum: there’s a good blend of inpatient and outpatient with a variety of elective options in 3 week segments which makes everything more manageable. Additionally, lots of weekends off and not too many nights.

Why you chose Delnor: All the residents I talked to on the interview trail seemed genuinely happy to work and learn here. Delnor also has a unique location right on the edge of Chicagoland so we get to serve both suburban and rural Illinois communities.

Current obsession: Bien Trucha in downtown Geneva 🌮

Why you chose Delnor: I did a sub-internship during med school at Delnor and was blown away by how kind, supportive, and close-knit the residents/faculty were! Geneva is also my hometown so being close to family is a huge plus! 💜🤍

Our story

Thank you for visiting the Northwestern McGaw Family Medicine Residency at Delnor! The Delnor Family Medicine Residency is Northwestern McGaw’s third family medicine residency, and it was founded on a tradition of academic success. Our program is housed at Delnor Hospital in Geneva, Illinois, a US News and World Report regionally ranked hospital that houses more than 600 physicians in 80 specialties. It is our mission as a premier integrated academic health system to combine the scholarship of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine with the strength of the family medicine community at Delnor to create an educational environment of excellence.
