I used to believe that if I was going out for a run, it had to be 30 minutes or it was not worth it. After having my third baby, sometimes I didn’t have 30 minutes to give and I really missed running. I was overstimulated, exhausted and meeting everyone’s needs, except my own. I had to reframe what time for myself meant - any amount of time counted because it was time I was giving myself that I wasn’t giving before. When it came to running that meant if I could run for 10 minutes, it was 10 minutes gained.
It’s really easy to get stuck in what caring for ourselves SHOULD be - the 30 minute workout, a perfect home cooked meal, whatever it is. But for some of us, those standards are paralyzing.
Let’s reframe our expectations of what caring for ourselves looks like. Maybe it’s not the 30 minute meal, but the 10 minute “self-care snack” (or 5?).
Maybe it starts by grounding yourself with your 5 senses.
