As a woman landowner Lucy is rare. She says she was lucky, but it took hard work too – saving for many years until she had enough to buy a plot of her own.

At the same time, she also managed to raise and educate all her children as a single mother, thanks to cocoa. 💪

She says, ‘Fairtrade has catapulted us to a better position, and even [my children’s] wellbeing has been taken care of. I can use Premium for school fees if needed.’

Choosing Fairtrade is about more than fair incomes, it’s about supporting farmers to secure sustainable livelihoods for themselves and their families. 💚

AVOCADO TREE GUILD

Fruit tree guilds are are planned systems of companion planting specific fruit trees with additional plants that provide beneficial functions to the tree and soil. Not only does this improve the overall health of your tree, meaning better fruit production, but also provides an attractive habitat for specialized pollinators, beneficial insects and active soil remediation.

Tree Guilds include diverse plant species that:
- attracts beneficial insects and deters pests
- provides active and dynamic soil remediation
- increases biomass and organic matter in the soil
- provides ‘cut & drop’ mulch
- provides a living mulch that grows and blankets the soil, helping with water retention and preventing soil erosion
- produces nectar and pollen to attract pollinators
suppresses weeds
