It’s parent-teacher conference season 💛

If you’re hearing that your child has made growth this year but is still below grade level, we want you to know something important… growth is amazing, and support can continue that progress.

Sometimes kids work incredibly hard and improve, but they still need targeted, structured intervention to fully catch up in reading, spelling, or language skills. That’s where we come in.

At Speechology NWA, we specialize in:
• Dyslexia intervention
• Reading and spelling support
• Mixed receptive/expressive language therapy
• Comprehensive evaluations

You do not have to navigate this alone. If conferences leave you with questions or concerns, reach out. We’re happy to talk through next steps and help you decide what support may look like.

We accept Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Municipal Health.

Message us or call the clinic to schedule an evaluation or learn more.

Let’s keep that growth going 💙

🎉 We’re all set up for teletherapy and we’re excited about it 🎉

Teletherapy lets your child get high-quality reading and dyslexia support from home, with the same structured, data-driven approach we use in person. No long drives, no missed sessions due to weather, and easier scheduling for busy families.

With teletherapy, kids still get direct, one-on-one instruction, clear visuals, interactive activities, and real-time feedback. Many students stay more focused and confident in their own space, which helps skills stick faster.

This also means we can support families who live farther away or have limited local options, without compromising quality.

📍 Speechology NWA
✔ Structured literacy & dyslexia intervention
✔ Teletherapy ready
✔ Accepts Medicaid, BCBS, and Municipal plans

Message us to see if teletherapy is a good fit for your child. We still offer in person sessions.

🚨 This is how kids quietly fall behind in school 🚨

Your child may say,
“I know that spelling rule.”

But if their accuracy is 50–70%, the skill is not mastered. At school pace, that means guessing, confusion, and gaps that grow fast.

Research in structured literacy shows students need about 95% accuracy for a reading or spelling skill to truly stick and support future learning. Below that, the brain is still working too hard just to apply the rule, leaving kids behind as lessons move on.

This is why some kids seem “fine” early on, then suddenly struggle in reading and spelling.

If this sounds familiar, extra support can make all the difference.

🧠 Why repetition matters for students with dyslexia

Students with dyslexia don’t struggle because they aren’t trying hard enough.
Their brains need more repetitions for reading and spelling skills to become automatic.

A typical learner may need 10–20 repetitions.
A student with dyslexia may need hundreds of correct, structured repetitions over time, sometimes 300–400+, for a skill to truly stick.

This repetition happens gradually through:
• explicit instruction
• structured review
• repeated reading and spelling
• revisiting skills across weeks and months

When skills seem mastered one week and shaky the next, it’s not lack of effort.
It means the skill hasn’t reached automaticity yet.

More repetition isn’t a setback.
It’s how dyslexic learners succeed.

🚨 Do. Not. Wait. 🚨
If a child starts behind in reading, the odds of catching up fall fast:
📚 49% in kindergarten
📘 29% in first grade
📗 18% in second grade
📕 5% in third grade
We don’t have a third-grade reading crisis — we have an early learning opportunity.
When parents, teachers, and interventionists work together early, kids thrive.
At Speechology NWA, we believe prevention is better than remediation.
Let’s start early. Let’s start strong.

📣 Second grade parents… this one’s for you.

If your child is bright, curious, and creative but reading and spelling feel much harder than they should, trust your gut. Many parents miss early red flags because their child is smart and masking well. Early signs matter!

Here are common indicators of dyslexia in second grade:
• Difficulty learning letters and sounds
• Trouble remembering sight words
• Frequent b/d or p/q reversals
• Struggles with rhyming
• Slow, choppy reading
• Spelling that does not match the sounds (kat, sed)
• Avoids reading aloud
• Trouble remembering sequences
• Family history of reading struggles
• Smart kid, but reading feels like a battle

If you are checking several of these boxes, your child may need a deeper look at their reading skills. Early identification leads to much stronger outcomes.

🌟 We offer dyslexia evaluations and structured literacy intervention designed for readers who need more support.
If you are unsure where your child falls, message us. We are happy to guide you.

💙 We accept BCBS, Arkansas Medicaid, and Municipal insurance.

This school year is the start of Arkansas putting the new 3rd grade reading promotion rules into place. Beginning with the end of the 2025–26 year, students who don’t meet the reading benchmark may be retained, but there are good-cause exemptions that can still allow promotion.

The “minimum reading standard” is defined in the guidance as a Level 2 or higher on the Grade 3 ATLAS ELA assessment for promotion eligibility.

Good-cause exemptions include:
• English learners with less than 3 years of English instruction
• Students with an IEP or 504 who’ve had 2+ years of strong reading intervention
• Students already retained in K–3
• Students with 2+ years of intensive reading intervention who still show a reading delay
• Students who can show they’re reading on grade level through work samples
• Special situations approved by the state

All students who don’t meet the standard will get extra reading help, whether they stay in 3rd or move to 4th with an exemption.

If you’re worried about your child’s reading progress, reach out today. We’re here to help.

Reading shouldn’t feel like a daily struggle.

Research shows that about 20% of children have dyslexia, and many go undiagnosed until upper elementary or even middle school. The earlier we understand how a child learns, the faster we can help them succeed.

At Speechology NWA, we offer comprehensive dyslexia evaluations and evidence-based reading intervention. Our goal is to help kids feel confident, capable, and proud of their progress.

If your child avoids reading, mixes up letters, or seems bright but frustrated by schoolwork, trust your gut—it might be time for an evaluation.

Send us a message or give us a call. Early identification leads to lifelong confidence in learning.

We accept Medicaid, BCBS, Municipal, and EFA Funds.
