And we’re back with our Q&A series with our ENT specialist, Dr. Scott Franklin! Topic for today: mouth breathing in children.

Q: I’ve noticed my child breathes through her mouth at night. Is that any cause for concern?

A: Occasional mouth breathing in children is usually harmless. Persistent mouth breathing, on the other hand, often signals an underlying issue, such as nasal obstruction, enlarged tonsils or adenoids, or allergies. Over time, mouth breathing can impact sleep quality, dental development, and even facial growth. It’s important to have your child promptly evaluated, so any underlying causes can be addressed early.

Snifflers, eyes here: 👀

Chronic sinusitis could do more than just clog your nose; it could cloud your brain as well. Recent research has established a link between the two, in that people with chronic sinusitis may have reduced functional connectivity in their frontoparietal network, a part of the brain involved in memory, attention, judgment, and complex problem-solving.

If you’ve been battling chronic sinusitis and feeling fuzzy, you may wonder whether treating your sinusitis will help you achieve mental clarity. It’s definitely worth considering.

For expert care for chronic sinusitis, visit Dr. Scott Franklin here at Georgetown ENT. Dr. Franklin specializes in balloon sinuplasty, a minimally invasive procedure that involves the use of a tiny balloon to widen the sinus cavity to restore healthy drainage. Balloon sinuplasty has a remarkable success rate – more than 95% of individuals who’ve had the procedure have experienced significant improvement in their symptoms.

Schedule an appointment today, and let Dr. Franklin help you breathe easy and think clearly again! Call us at (512) 869-0604.

You’ve probably heard that diabetes can affect your vision, but did you know that it can impact your hearing as well? 👂That’s right, high blood sugar levels can harm the small blood vessels in your inner ear, disrupting how nerve signals travel from your ear to your brain.

This American Diabetes Month, we aim to help raise awareness of the link between diabetes and hearing loss and encourage people to be proactive about their hearing health.

If you are living with diabetes, come see us for a thorough hearing evaluation. Call (512) 869-0604 to schedule an appointment.

Back with our Ask-the-Expert series with Dr. Franklin! Today’s topic: earwax removal.

Q: What’s the best thing to use to clean out my earwax?

A: You shouldn’t clean it out at all. While it may seem gross, earwax is the ear’s natural cleaning solvent and protective barrier against dirt and germs. Removing it with cotton swabs or other objects can push wax deeper and cause blockages, or even injure the ear.

Earwax removal is only necessary if there are signs of buildup, such as pain and hearing difficulties. In those cases, it’s best to visit Dr. Scott Franklin here at Georgetown ENT for safe and effective removal.

Want to hear a fun fact? Allergy immunotherapy is basically a chill pill for your immune system. In the event of exposure to pollen, dust, or pet dander, it keeps the body from overreacting. Over time, your body gets desensitized to an allergen—and you rely less and less on medications.

We’re proud to offer allergy immunotherapy here at Georgetown ENT! If you’re curious if this innovative treatment is right for you, book an appointment with Dr. Franklin today: (512) 869-0604.
