✨ We are delighted to announce Carole Slaughter as our January Resident of the Month! ✨ Carole’s story begins in South Carolina, though she spent her formative years in Indiana. It was at Purdue University where she met the love of her life, Bob. Their connection was immediate; the two were married just seven months after meeting, embarking on a life filled with travel and adventure. Together, they raised two
children, Kristen and Bill, and today Carole finds endless joy in her granddaughters, Lauryn and Anna.
Carole’s intellectual pursuits are truly inspiring. She earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Texas, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude and was awarded a prestigious Phi Beta Kappa key. After her children were school-aged, she channeled her passion for learning into a teaching career. A particularly proud moment in Carole’s life was holding the first hard copy of her book, Cyrella. Though she jokes that it was "badly edited," the "rush" of being an official author and
sharing her work with friends and family is a
memory she still treasures. At The Oscar, Carole has become a vital part of our community fabric. Whether she is strategizing over Rummikub and card games, expressing her creativity in painting, or participating in Book Club, she does so with a heart for others. For Carole, these activities are more than just hobbies—they are a way to foster a supportive atmosphere. She is always ready to lend a hand, share a conversation to reduce feelings of isolation, or celebrate a joyful occasion with a neighbor. Carole often speaks of the "peace of mind" she finds here, noting that the community makes it easier to navigate life’s transitions. She credits our "beyond excellent"
staff—from the concierge to the culinary team—for creating an environment where well-being and spiritual guidance are nurtured. Carole, thank you for your spirit of cooperation and for being such a welcoming friend to all. Congratulations!

✨ Ringing in 2026 at The Oscar! ✨

Last night, we said goodbye to 2025 in true Oscar style! It was an evening to remember as our community came together, dressed to the nines, to celebrate the start of a brand-new year.

From the live music that kept us toe-tapping all night to the laughter shared across the dance floor, it was the perfect way to honor the amazing memories we’ve made together. 🥂

Cheers to 2026! We’re so grateful for the memories we’ve built together in 2025 and can’t wait to see what this new year has in store for our wonderful community. We wish our residents, families, and friends a year filled with joy, health, and new adventures!

This month, we are delighted to honor Jim Testerman! Jim is a cherished member of The Oscar community, and we love hearing his stories and seeing his enthusiasm at our events. Jim’s inspiring journey began in Sudan, Texas. He graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in business, which was the springboard for his successful career. He built his own company from the ground up—a thriving venture he has since passed on to his children, Greg and Tamara. Jim shared that one of his most cherished memories was the day his children were born; this pivotal moment gave him the drive to go to college and make a success of himself for his family. His proudest moments include graduating college, seeing his business flourish, and, most importantly, his children. Jim met the love of his life when he was just 17 years old. He recalls meeting her for the first time in a shoe store: Although he didn’t know her, he instantly knew he would marry her someday—and two years later, he did! He finds great enjoyment at The Oscar in the variety of our activities, with his favorite being Happy Hour with live music.

We are so grateful to enjoy Jim’s presence, daily!

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our coworker and friend, NeNe Stewart. She was an amazing mother, nurse, friend, and team member. Her smile, just like in the photos below, lit up every room she entered. NeNe will be missed more than words can express. We extend our deepest condolences to her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Tiny hooves, big smiles, and a whole lot of love! 🐴❤️

We had a very special guest at The Oscar at Georgetown this week! Mercy, the mini therapy horse, stopped by to spread some holiday cheer. Dressed in her finest festive outfit, she trotted through our halls and straight into our hearts.

There’s something truly magical about the bond between our residents and such a gentle soul. Thank you so much to Visiting Angels for sponsoring Mercy’s visit and making these beautiful moments possible. We already can’t wait for her next visit!
