Please be patient this morning, as Spectrum has an outage in the area, and we are trying to survive on just one copper phone line. (And they want to eliminate Copper (POTS) phone lines😅). Oh boy!

Inclement weather announcement. Dr. R has spent all day working on the lot, but Mother Nature is not giving up. For safety reasons, GEC will be closed for routine appointments tomorrow 1/6 and the optical will be closed, but Dr. R will be here for emergencies and for any of HIS patients who want to brave the weather. You will be hearing from staff to reschedule your appointments. Be safe!

Pursuant to Kentucky law, you will need to have your vision tested with any drivers' license renewal. The law went into force 1/1/25. Kentucky gives basically 3 options in the year preceding your renewal. 1. Get the required vision form from your eye care provider at your visit, up to one year before the renewal date. 2. Get the form from a "certified" physician or provider in another specialty. 3. Go to the Drivers' License site and have them test you at the renewal point. The first two options may carry a nominal charge.

At GEC we are happy to fill out your State vision form during your visit in the year preceding your renewal for $10, or if you call for the form, we can have it ready for you in 2 business days for pick up, also for $10. This cost will be added to your patient account, and payment will be expected at pickup. Please do not call us for a form earlier than one year before your expiration. There will be an opportunity for you to disclose your expiration to us at every visit, if you wish us to execute your form. We want to help. Please ask!

Remember that the law didn't change. It's the enforcement that changed. KRS dictates that you need 20/60 vision, minimum, from one eye, with a standardized amount of peripheral vision, to operate a passenger vehicle. A key point to remember is that the drivers' licensing sites will screen at 20/40, so if you have marginal vision and don't pass, they will demand that you receive a formal test at an eye doctor.

If anyone has information related to the hit-and-run property damage caused by a Scott Co Voter parking at our office on Saturday, we would certainly appreciate it! We reached out to law enforcement, and the County Clerks office to get the overflow parking situation under control, and this is our reward. đŸ€“đŸ˜„

Sticky note. GEC has been having trouble with one of our phone providers and occasionally the 5028633112 number is unreachable or says ”out of service.“ We’ve noticed, in particular, some issues dialing in from Verizon’s wireless network in the last day. ATT is looking at our PSTN wired lines, but Dr R always has a backup in place! Try another phone or drop a note here if you are having issues and describe the mobile network you are calling from and the message you are getting. 17 years of trouble free service, now this
. Booo.😅

Georgetown Eye Care wants to thank all of its patients for their continued support, and in return we want you to know that we tirelessly advocate for patients’ rights. Many of you have recently asked, “why do I have to sign this affidavit for my contact and glasses prescription.“ Trust us, our professional societies fought this new Federal regulation. The current Federal Trade Commission wants to police eye care businesses to ensure that you receive an RX before being asked to buy eyewear—punishing “the many” to entrap “the few.” We hear you, and thank you for your kind compliance. We legitimately have no option now but to comply.

another Federal Agency taking away time from patient care. *sigh*

GEC thinks it’s important to keep you apprised of public health issues, and just as important, the issues that affect your doctors, your insurance and your access to care. Medicare announced another 2.8 percent cut to Medicare physician pay for 2025 this week, which will make the total cut 28.8 +/- percent in the last 20 years. We are not endorsing Rise Health, but we find it interesting that not a single news outlet is running this story below. It’s hard to imagine something like this would go undetected. Fraud like this, if true, can fund a repair of Medicare and increase access for our patients. Writing to your Congressmen is paramount! For your information:

An in-depth report by the Wall Street Journal reveals that Medicare Advantage (MA) insurers were paid $50 billion from 2018 to 2021 for thousands of questionable diagnoses. The newspaper analyzed billions of Medicare records and discovered in some cases patients never received subsequent care for th...

Ahh, the solar eclipse is today, at least partially for us here in Georgetown. Unfortunately, we don’t have any ISO certified Eclipse Glasses. However, for those who are curious, here is the scoop. You would not stare at the sun on the beach, because you have an aversion reflex. When there is an eclipse, your body doesn’t tell you to look away. But, the thermal, photochemical, damage to the retina (or back of the eye) still occurs. The aperature of the pupil is also less constricted! So, do not stare at the eclipse today! Especially, don’t look at it through any type of magnifying lenses. The damage can be permanent, and there is no treatment. You’ll find all sorts of fun things to do today, like making a pinhole viewing box, or, admiring the cool shadows on the ground. Just please don’t stare at the sun!

Georgetown Eye Care will be closed on the Tuesday after Christmas 2023 to give its employees time to travel and be with family. We will also close at 3pm 12/29 for inventory. Happy Holidays!
