The world said goodbye to an extraordinary dog when Bobi, recognized as the oldest dog ever recorded, passed away at the remarkable age of 31 🐕. Bobi was a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo from Portugal, a livestock-guardian breed that typically lives around 12 to 14 years, making his lifespan more than double the average for dogs of his size.
Born in 1992, Bobi spent his entire life with the Costa family in the rural village of Conqueiros. According to his owners, his long life was partly due to a peaceful environment, plenty of freedom to roam outdoors, and a diet that often included fresh, home-cooked food shared with the family.
Veterinarians and researchers were fascinated by his age, as reaching three decades is extremely rare for dogs. His age was officially verified by Guinness World Records, surpassing the previous record by several years.
While people often convert dog years differently depending on breed and size, Bobi’s life still represents an astonishing milestone in canine longevity. His story captured hearts around the world, reminding many people how deeply animals become part of our lives and families. 🕊️
