The Birth of Henry. After going to bed around 9:00 on Saturday, I was woken up around 11:00 by wet sheets… not sure if I just peed a little or my water broke, I stood up to examine the situation. In doing so, the amniotic fluid came flowing. I woke up Christopher, text our midwife and turned on the British Baking Show to have the soft sounds of Paul Hollywood soothe me to sleep. I had roughly two contractions an hour throughout the night, but nothing intense. After a lackluster night of sleep, the boys woke up and my contractions stopped completely so we called in reinforcements… my Mama. Then while Elliott napped as we watched church online, they returned. As soon as he woke up, they stopped. So Christopher took them to play and I took a nap. I woke up got some food, laid down for a bit longer and then told Henry it was go time. By 1:00 pm, my contractions were averaging five minutes apart and about a minute long. I text my birth photographer and she was at the house around 3:00. I was still light hearted and able to laugh and joke with her as she captured sweet moments with the family during and between contractions. Our midwives came about an hour later, and shortly after they arrived I went into active labor. As bedtime for the boys was upon us, so was Henry’s arrival. With the support of Christopher, my mom and my midwife, my body worked hard contracting and pushing Henry down. Christopher went to put Elliott to bed and I felt the need to p**p, and did not want to do that on my birth ball in my bedroom, but usually that feeling means birth is moments away. We went to the bathroom, I had another contraction where I could feel his head coming. I had my mom rush to get Christopher. I had another contraction and Henry was born on his due date at 5:39 pm. It truly is amazing how the body knows what to do if you just listen to it. I’m so grateful to have had the best birth team possible and for the boys to be there with me. They rubbed my back, breathed with me, read to me and Calvin came running in seconds after Henry was born. I will never forget the look on his face; in disbelief that his baby brother was born!

The Birth Of Goldie: My birth story technically started the night of October 11th. My due date was the next day (the 12th) but I felt like I had some time left (because really who goes into labor on their actual due date!? lol) and was in full nesting mode! For about 2 hours that night, I was on my hands and knees with a paint roller finishing some nursery decor. So subsequently I was up until about 1:30am working on some last minute projects around the house.

At 4:30 am I woke up out of a deep sleep to what sounded like a ‘pop’ and immediately felt my waters start to come. I jumped out of bed and let Scott know and he jumped up as well. I went to sit on the toilet (because I didn’t know how much more water would continue to come) and called Salli who encouraged me to go back to sleep.

After getting off the phone with her and also calling my mom to let her know it was go-time I started to shake and cry… the reality of it all hit me all at once and I felt super overwhelmed and uncertain if I could do this. Scott came and hugged me, prayed over me, and then we laid back down.

Except for that my adrenaline and excitement was too much and I couldn’t sleep. So we decided to go for a slow morning. The waves started at 5:15 am (about 6 minutes apart and very bearable) so I hopped in the shower and got ready for what I thought was going to be a pretty quick process; and Scott went ahead and made us breakfast and ordered some cinnamon rolls from our favorite local spot (shoutout to sweet lemon kitchen!)

Soon after, my mom arrived to the house and my waves started to get a little closer together at about 5 minutes apart and had slowly increased in intensity. Embracing a slow peaceful morning I started stretching on my birth ball and we turned on a comedy show (I had read that laughter keeps you loose and helps keep from tightening your muscles.) The birth of Willow Mae!

Our perfect little Willow was born August 30th, mid morning surrounded by the best birth team.

Having had an induction at 38 weeks ending in a c section with my first babe I wasn’t really sure what to expect, how my body may present as it prepared for labor and birthing my second girl. For a couple weeks I had been having Braxton hicks, two days leading up to August 30th I was having more intense cramping. The night of the 29th my water broke when I stood up from laying down with my toddler for bedtime. I texted Salli because I wasn’t really sure if it was my water breaking, yet. I laid down to rest and the big gush came and I knew that my water had indeed broke. My doula advised I lay down and get as much rest as I could between the early labor contractions when they started so that I’d be as rested as possible. 12:30 am came and I woke my husband up because I was needing some help getting through contractions. I was very tired, especially since I hadn’t been sleeping well at nights just tossing and turning trying to get comfortable. I took a hot shower, walked the house, called my sister around 1:30 am to pick up my toddler. My contractions kept getting closer (also I was nervous because this was my first time with natural labor so I wasn’t sure how quickly things would approach and we had a 35 minute drive to the birth center). We got to the birth center around 3 am. Continued in comments…

What a beautiful story. Thank you for sharing

Benedict H. made his arrival on Friday, September 8 bright and early in the morning. Honestly I’m not sure anymore how much over my “due date” he was, but he came when he was ready.

For about six weeks leading up to his birth, i started experiencing Braxton Hicks and belly tightening. Sleep was harder to come by just because these sensations happened at night while I tried to sleep. I was convinced he would’ve come earlier than he did. But nope.

When it finally did come, my labor was unpredictable and intense but also… slow and calm. It got serious enough that I called my doula and said “I’m not really sure, but I think maybe it’s getting to be that time?” She came over around 11:30PM and after hanging out and chatting for a bit- her, Alex, and me, laid on couches and tried to sleep in the living room until things picked up (around 3.) My mom was sleeping with Rosie in the other room, so thankfully I was able to rest a little easier knowing she was well taken care of.

Around 4:30AM (I think) is when the rest of the team joined - mom, midwives, and photographer. My labor finally became consistent and intense. My midwife occasionally checked on little bebe in there just to make sure everything was going well and my doula was applying counter pressure while Alex rubbed my shoulders. Like last time, I ended up puking a lot more than I thought which totally sucked but everything else was right on track. I didn’t use any birthing “tricks” other than to keep my voice low, breathe, and try to relax every muscle in my body. Total mind game. The whole team was all hands on deck around 5:45 when it was finally time to get in the tub.

My water broke at 6:02 and Ben came out all at once at 6:07AM.

Rosie joined the party at 7:09, right as the sun was starting to rise and shine through our back windows. She immediately loved her baby brother and gave him pats and gentle kisses on his head.

The whole team was essential to the success of little Ben’s birth. I don’t think I could’ve done it without them. We are happy and healthy and recovering together. 💙

Judaea’s Birth

Somewhere around 26 weeks I started suspecting our baby was breech. Having had a breech baby before, the kicks / movements felt all too familiar. We tried all of the things to get her to turn, chiropractor twice a week, inversions, spinning babies techniques, swimming 3-5 times a week, ECV. But nothing happened.

At 40 wks 2 days I started having some very sporadic contractions throughout the day, nothing consistent and so we just went about our day. I took my kids for an afternoon swim from 3:30-5:00 (still trying to turn that baby) I had a few random contractions while swimming that still didn’t seem like real labor contractions. I headed inside right at 5 o’clock to shower and get dinner going.

I went out to hang up my wet clothes and I remember praying right then that if I was going to go into labor, my water would break so that I would know to text Salli since she is an hour away.

At 5:30 Colton was just headed out the door to make an H-E-B run with our kids when I had an intense contraction and my water broke. Colton called Salli and she headed over right away. He also texted my mom who came and picked up our kids.

After my water broke I had strong contractions but still sporadic, 2 in a five minute span and then nothing for 10-15 minutes etc. Suddenly I started feeling the need to be on my hands and knees for a few very intense contractions which made me nervous so I started praying during each one that God would protect our baby and Salli would make it before I had the urge to push.

Salli got here right at 6:35 and I moved to my bed (still on elbows and knees) where she checked me and to my complete surprise and relief said I was at a 9.5. After a few more contractions I told Salli “I’m feeling like I need to push” and she said “go for it.”

I was very grateful that Salli kept me very informed as our baby made her appearance, it helped me visualize what was happening.

The Birth of Abby. Abby’s Birth Story
Happiest of birthdays to the love I wasn’t prepared for. People tell you it’s a love you can’t fathom and it is so true.

Rewind:
May 11th
I woke up that morning with a little spotting but nothing major. I had a chiro appointment that afternoon so I was hopeful that things would start progressing more after that… which it did. About 5 min after getting adjusted I lost my mucus plug! God bless chiropractics!
May 12th
During the night I had some mild cramping and woke up that morning excited. My 38 week appointment was at noon and when meeting with Ashley she suggested starting my maternity leave and resting throughout the day.
I was thinking about signing back on to work for a little bit as a distraction but one good contraction as I was headed in the house and my mind was changed.
Over the next few hours I labored at home and later that night the contractions started picking up.
I called my doula as my hubby needed rest to help later so she came over around 11 and we hunkered down until about 2 am. That’s when it was confirmed with Salli and Ashley that it was time to head to Georgetown. Continued in comments…
