Who is at risk for colorectal cancer?

• Adults 45 and older
• Anyone with a family history of colorectal cancer or polyps
• Personal history of inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn’s or ulcerative colitis
• Diets high in processed or red meats
• Smoking, heavy alcohol use, obesity, or low physical activity
• African Americans have a higher risk and are more likely to be diagnosed at later stages
🗓 When should you be screened?
• Age 45 – Screening should begin for most adults
• Earlier than 45 if you have a family history or higher risk factors (talk to your provider)
• Screening options include colonoscopy (every 10 years if normal) or stool-based tests done annually or every 3 years depending on the test
