Thanks to another awesome team of dedicated MEDICO volunteers, the community of Auka, Gracias a Dios, Honduras was provided with essential medical and dental care. Despite challenges of delayed travel and unexpected weather delays the team remained deeply committed to reaching their work location and sharing time in the community.

Doctors! WE NEED YOU! How about joining a MEDICO team and sharing an experience from yesteryears and make a house call to see a sick patient. Dr. Nick did just that. He walked a distance over a narrow beaten path to a home in Uhi, Gracias a Dios, Honduras where the patient was unable to come to our makeshift clinic to be assessed. MEDICO teams have recently returned from Honduras, where they visited two of our regular worksites, Pranza and Uhi, situated in the Department of Gracias a Dios.
In these remote areas, access to healthcare is often limited or non-existent, leading to a range of health issues that go untreated. MEDICO’s presence in these areas is not just about providing medical care; it’s about fostering hope and resilience. It’s about our commitment to ensure that everyone has access to the healthcare they deserve.

It is with deep sadness that we share the recent passing of Bob Gurmankin, DDS, a long-time dedicated volunteer with MEDICO. It was Bob’s many times of sharing a week of service that made an impact on MEDICO’s mission efforts in Central America. Bob shared his skills, taught hundreds of school students the importance of good dental hygiene, mentored young dentists as they participated on at team and always displayed his big heart in support of reaching out where there was a need. We are deeply grateful for Bob’s support of MEDICO’s dental program and his ongoing willingness to always make sure we were providing the best care possible to those were served.
Bob was a quiet man, but his impact was loud and clear. He served as a MEDICO board member and later stepped into the presidency position. MEDICO is grateful for his dedication and service.

And what a week it was! A great team of volunteers, wonderful team hosts, rain, truck rides, superman outfits, delicious food, fun rides on a tuk-tuk, bird sanctuary, providing medical and dental care to hundreds, health education to students, cultural dances, and beds and showers at night at the Hacienda were all part of a MEDICO week of service!
