Active recovery doesn't mean doing nothing. It means moving your body in ways that feel good and serve your life outside the gym.

The strength you build at Althea isn't just for the gym floor. It's for walking the Legacy Trail, keeping up with your kids or grandkids, picking up heavy things without thinking twice. That's functional fitness, and that's what we train for.

Your body needs rest days, but rest doesn't have to mean sitting still. A walk, some gentle movement, time outside? That's recovery that actually serves you.

We're located right here in Georgetown, KY, and we're building a fitness family that celebrates strength at every stage. Your first class is free. πŸ’œ

Listen up, Georgetown! I guarantee most of you are doing lateral raises wrong.

Those extra couple inches at the top? They're not doing anything for you. Actually, they could be harming your shoulder.

As you raise the dumbbells, push them AWAY from your body. When you get tired, I'd much rather see partial reps that protect your shoulder structure than full reps that put your joint in jeopardy.

It's okay to go a little heavy. Just don't sacrifice form for those extra inches.

Your shoulders (and your future self) will thank you. πŸ’œ

Spoiler alert: I do NOT type while planking. (Most days.)

The truth? I write your programming with way less core engagement and way more coffee. But hey, if you thought I was out here doing V-sits while designing your single-leg RDLs, I respect the confidence you have in my multitasking abilities. πŸ’œ

Your first class is free (no laptop planking required).

I'm tired of watching the fitness world tell women over 40 what they CAN'T do.

If you've been online lately, you've seen it: "HIIT is too hard on your cortisol." "You should only lift heavy." "Group fitness classes are damaging your hormones."

And look, I love strength training. You know that. But this idea that women over 40 need to avoid high-intensity work completely? That's just another way to make you second-guess what your body is capable of.

The truth: your body was built to handle intensity. HIIT builds cardiovascular health, bone density, and functional strength. The key isn't avoiding it. It's doing it with proper form, recovery, and guidance (not just following some random workout you found online).

Movement is good. Variety is good. Strength training AND high-intensity work? Even better.

What's NOT good is the constant stream of fear-based advice that keeps you from moving at all.

You're stronger than the internet gives you credit for. Come prove it.

For decades, women were told what NOT to do in the gym:

Don't lift heavy.
Don't build too much muscle.
Stick to light weights and cardio.

In your 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond, strength training isn't just about changing how your body looks. It's about protecting your bone density, preserving muscle mass, and proving to yourself what you're still capable of.

If you're new to strength training, start.
If you've been comfortable for too long, progress.

Your future self will thank you. πŸ’œ

HIIT workouts get a bad rap, especially for women over 40. I get it. The name alone sounds intimidating.

HIIT doesn't mean you have to destroy yourself or keep up with 20-year-olds doing burpees until you can't breathe. It just means short bursts of effort followed by rest. And that structure? It's actually perfect for building strength and protecting bone density as we age.

You don't need to be "fit enough" to start. You just need to show up and work at YOUR intensity. We'll teach you proper form, explain the why behind every movement, and make sure you're challenging yourself safely.

Your future self will thank you. πŸ’œ

You think repeating a workout is boring. I get it. Variety feels exciting, and switching things up every session feels like you're "working harder."

But your muscles don't grow from confusion. They grow from progressive overload, doing the same movements consistently so you can lift heavier, do more reps, and actually track your progress.

At Althea, we program intentional progressions over weeks, not random workouts. That's how you see yourself getting stronger. That's empowering.

I get it. Doing the same workout again feels redundant. Like you should be doing something NEW to see change.

But your muscles don't grow from novelty. They grow from progressive overload, which means repeating movements with more weight, better form, or increased control.

When you chase "different" every session, your body never gets the chance to adapt and get stronger. You're always starting over.

Consistency isn't boring. It's strategic. It's how you build the kind of strength that changes how you move through your actual life (picking up grandkids, carrying groceries, getting up off the floor without using your hands).

The workout doesn't need to be exciting. The results are what's exciting.
