If you wake up with jaw pain, headaches, or your dentist keeps mentioning worn enamel—your body is crying out for help 🗣️

Jaw clenching and grinding isn’t just a “stress habit.” It’s your body’s protective response, trying to stabilize an unstable joint and keep your airway open, especially at night.

The problem with mouthguards:
They protect your teeth from damage, but they don’t stop you from clenching. They don’t address WHY your body feels the need to stabilize in the first place. Your nervous system is still in overdrive, your muscles are still firing all night, and the root cause remains unaddressed.

Our ancestors chewed bones, tough meat, gristle, nuts, and seeds—building strong jaws, developed facial structures, and powerful tongue muscles. Today’s soft, processed foods require minimal chewing. Over generations, we’ve developed weaker jaws, underdeveloped facial structures, and tongues that lack the strength to rest properly. Add nutrient depletion, and you have widespread jaw instability.

Through gentle, specific adjustments to your neuro-spinal system—including the cranial bones and TMJ—we help:
✨ Support cranial stability so your body doesn’t compensate with clenching
✨ Release tension in the TMJ and restore proper joint movement
✨ Address tongue tension and improve tongue posture for better airway support
✨ Calm your nervous system so your body feels safe enough to actually rest

When your body is at ease and your nervous system is clear and connected, you don’t need to recruit those jaw muscles for protection anymore.
You can finally rest without being in defense mode.

Jaw clenching is your body asking for stability and regulation—not just a mouthguard.
Let’s get to the root cause 💚

Many parents don’t realize that tongue tie isn’t just about the visible tissue under the tongue. It’s about the ENTIRE system—and this is where chiropractic becomes absolutely essential.

When a baby has a tongue tie, their whole body compensates. Tension builds in the jaw, neck, cranial bones, and fascia. The nervous system works overtime just to feed. And even after a release procedure, if those compensatory patterns aren’t addressed, feeding struggles can continue.

Here’s how chiropractic care supports babies with tongue ties:
🧠 Releases tension in cranial bones and facial structures—creating more space and mobility for the tongue to move freely

🔗 Addresses restricted fascia throughout the neck, jaw, and throat—because tongue tie restriction goes beyond just the frenulum

⚡ Improves nervous system communication to the muscles of the mouth and tongue—optimizing motor control for feeding, swallowing, and speech

💪 Relieves compensatory tension in the neck, shoulders, and upper back—tension that develops when babies work extra hard to feed

✨ Supports optimal healing after tongue tie release—ensuring the nervous system is clear and connected, reducing scar tissue, and promoting proper tongue movement patterns

When the nervous system and fascial structures are restricted, even a “minor” tongue tie can cause MAJOR feeding issues.

This is why we always recommend chiropractic care BEFORE and AFTER a tongue tie release. It’s not just helpful—it’s essential for the best possible outcome. Your baby’s body needs support to release those deep tension patterns and relearn how to move and feed with ease.

If your little one is struggling with feeding, whether you’ve had a release or not, let’s assess their nervous system first.

Sometimes the missing piece isn’t another procedure—it’s getting their whole body clear and connected.

About Dr.Shelby

Hi y’all my name is Dr. Shelby Phillips. I am a local chiropractor in Georgetown, Texas. I was born and raised in Georgetown, Texas. My family has been in Georgetown since the 1800s, so this town means a lot to my family and me. I attended Georgetown High School, I graduated in 2011. I continued my education at Texas State University (Eat em’ up cats), where I got my degree in exercise sports science. In 2015, I began my chiropractic journey at Parker University. During my clinical time at Parker, I had the privilege of working at the Veteran’s Hospital in Dallas. Which was by far one of the biggest blessings of my life, I learned so much about caring for our Veterans. After graduating from Parker, it was my dream to bring what I loved doing, back home to the people and community I love the most. I specialize in prenatal and pediatric care, but I treat all ages and have experience treating many different cases. I use many techniques which include: Prone specific, Diversified, Thompson, Activator, Webster, Upper Cervical, Gonstead.
