No child should go hungry, and thanks to Georgetown Backpack Buddies, over 1,000 GISD students head into each weekend with nutritious food they can count on. What started as a small pilot in 2009 has grown into a lifeline for families across all 20 GISD schools, ensuring children have what they need to stay focused, energized, and ready to learn.

In this video, Board President Rusty Langford shares how the program is doing more than filling food packs. It is helping kids thrive, strengthening families, and building a community where every child has the chance to reach their full potential.

Listen to Simple Sparrow president Judy Holcomb share how care farming changes lives. 🌱 At Simple Sparrow, trauma-informed programs teach people of all ages and abilities to care for land, gardens, and animals, helping them learn, grow, and heal. Every lesson is an opportunity to build compassion, resilience, and connection.

We are excited to announce that Letters of Intent (LOIs) for grant funding will open on December 1.

This is the first step for local nonprofits to share their ideas and projects that support health, well-being, and community impact in Georgetown and surrounding areas. We can’t wait to see the creative ways our neighbors are making a difference!
