Over time, this stopped feeling like just a system issue…
and started feeling personal.

I’ve worked with individuals, couples, and families across different settings—and no matter where I’ve been, access to care keeps coming up as one of the biggest barriers.

Especially in rural communities.

I’ve seen:

clients waiting months for services
families trying to piece together care from multiple places
people traveling long distances just to be seen

And I kept thinking…

What would it look like if care was actually built around the community instead of expecting people to navigate a broken system?

I keep seeing the same thing over and over again…

People in our rural communities trying to get mental health support—and hitting wall after wall.

Long waitlists.
Limited providers.
Driving out of the area just to get care.

And sometimes… just giving up.

Not because they don’t want help.
But because accessing it feels impossible.

As a therapist, this is one of the hardest parts of the work—
seeing people who want support and can’t get it.

Something needs to change.

I’m working on something new that has been on my heart for a long time.

Over the past several years working in mental health in our rural communities, I’ve seen firsthand how many people struggle to access care — whether it’s long wait lists, limited providers, or simply not having services close to home.

I’m beginning the process of developing a nonprofit organization focused on expanding mental health access in our foothill communities, including El Dorado, Placer, and surrounding areas. The vision includes providing support for low-income and rural residents, working with local schools to better support students and teachers, offering psychoeducational groups and community resources, and eventually developing a community wellness center where people can access care, education, and support in one place.

As I begin taking the first steps toward forming the nonprofit, I’m looking to connect with individuals who may be interested in helping shape this vision as part of an initial board of directors.

I’m especially interested in connecting with people who have experience or interest in:
• education or school systems
• healthcare or behavioral health
• nonprofit leadership or fundraising
• business, finance, or legal expertise
• community leadership and advocacy

Most importantly, I’m looking for people who care deeply about improving access to mental health support in our community.

If this sounds like something you might want to be involved in, or if you know someone who might be a great fit, please feel free to reach out to me directly.

I’ll be sharing more about the vision soon, and I’m excited to see what we can build together for our community.

I’m working on my next big project — building the nonprofit side of my vision.

I’m currently developing a business plan focused on expanding mental health services in rural communities in a bigger, more connected, and more sustainable way. My hope is to help improve access to care, reduce barriers for individuals and families with limited financial resources, and strengthen coordination of care so whole-person health is better supported.

As this continues to take shape, I’m looking to connect with providers, community members, individuals with lived experience navigating traditional mental health systems, and others who care deeply about improving access to care in rural areas.

I’m also beginning to think about future board development, so I’d especially love to connect with people who have experience or interest in nonprofit development, community outreach, healthcare, education, local leadership, or rural community advocacy.

I’ll likely be putting together a focus group as part of this process to gather feedback, share ideas, and help shape the vision.

I truly believe this could make a meaningful difference locally and, over time, become something that can be replicated in other rural communities as well.

If this speaks to you or you’d be interested in being involved, I’d love to hear from you.

Chores aren’t about raising “helpful kids.”
They’re about building capable, confident, resilient humans.

When children contribute at home, they’re not just learning how to clean or cook—they’re developing:
🧠 Executive functioning (planning, sequencing, follow-through)
💪 Self-efficacy and competence
❤️ A sense of belonging and responsibility
🧩 Problem-solving and emotional regulation

Research shows that children who regularly participate in age-appropriate chores develop greater independence, stronger work ethic, and higher long-term life skills—even predicting better outcomes in adulthood (Rossmann, 2002).

Chores tell a child:
"You matter here. You’re capable. You’re part of this family."
