A huge thank you to Jenena Sweezer, a survivor, Mary Cowans Joyner, and their amazing students for donating 150 snack bags for our patients!

Each bag was filled with love — and some sweet treats like cookies, candy, chips, breakfast bars, and peanut butter crackers.

Big news in innovation!

The FDA has granted marketing authorization for ProSense® cryoablation — a minimally invasive, outpatient treatment for select patients with early-stage, low-risk breast cancer.

We’re especially proud that Dr. Richard Fine, Breast Oncology Surgeon here at Margaret West Comprehensive Breast Center, served as lead author of the ICE3 clinical trial — the pivotal study that supported this FDA decision.

This advancement marks an exciting step forward in the de-escalation of breast cancer care, offering patients effective treatment with less surgery, faster recovery, and excellent outcomes.

Cryoablation, when combined with adjuvant endocrine therapy, may offer a minimally invasive outpatient strategy in older patients with breast cancer.

🩺 MD vs. DO: What’s the Difference? 🩺

Dr. Caroline Lippe, one of our breast oncology surgeons, explains the difference between an MD and a DO.

A DO (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) completes the same 4 years of medical school and can pursue the same residencies as an MD.

The key difference?

DOs receive additional training in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, which emphasizes that the body is interconnected.

Dr. Lippe shares how this approach can be especially helpful in patient care, considering how seemingly separate issues in the body might be related.

🎗 Meet Dr. Caroline Lippe 🎗

Originally from Hershey, Pennsylvania, Dr. Caroline Lippe shares how her personal connection to breast cancer inspired her career. Growing up, both her grandmother and aunt were diagnosed with breast cancer—an experience that gave her a firsthand look at the strength of patients and the importance of compassionate, skilled care.

Now, as a breast oncology surgeon, Dr. Lippe values the unique opportunity to walk alongside her patients through every stage of their journey — from diagnosis and treatment to survivorship — building lasting relationships every step of the way.

She chose to join our Breast Center because of our fully integrated approach to care. With all specialties under one roof, collaboration happens seamlessly — ensuring every patient receives the most personalized and comprehensive care possible.

Dr. Lippe is now seeing patients at our Germantown clinic for surgical consults and second opinions.

💗 Meet Keri 💗

To know Keri is to love her — she brings light, laughter, and positivity everywhere she goes.

Keri joined our West family after being diagnosed with breast cancer at age 46. Under the care of Dr. Sylvia Richey, she underwent a bilateral mastectomy followed by reconstructive surgery — facing each step with courage and grace.

Her cancer journey inspired a new purpose. After 23 years in her previous career, Keri chose to dedicate her life to helping others by joining the West Cancer Foundation. Today, she channels her experience and compassion into providing vital resources and support to patients in need.

🌸 Dr. Alyssa Pittman has been featured in this month's Memphis Health+Fitness Magazine 🌸

A former gymnast and student athlete, Dr. Pittman’s own experiences with surgery inspired her dream of becoming a surgeon. After training at the Medical College of Georgia, completing residency in South Carolina, and a fellowship here at Margaret West, she is now caring for patients across Memphis.

Dr. Pittman is passionate about personalized care — helping patients avoid unnecessary treatments and guiding them through their journey with compassion and expertise.
