Mental health matters at every age!

Sometimes small changes, like shifts in mood, sleep, or school performance, can be signs that a child is struggling.

Checking in early and keeping the conversation open can make a big difference. If you ever have concerns about your child’s emotional well-being or need advice on how to bring up mental health, talk to your pediatrician!

Milestones are a helpful way to track your baby's development, but you shouldn't treat them as a must-have checklist.

Every baby grows at their own pace, and not meeting a specific milestone right at 6 months is not a cause for concern.

Think of milestones as a tool to help you and your pediatrician track development over time. If you ever have questions or concerns, bring them up during your child’s visit, and we’ll monitor things together!

Is your child sneezing or dealing with ongoing congestion? Since the symptoms overlap, it can be difficult for parents to tell whether symptoms are caused by a cold or allergies.

Cold symptoms are usually caused by a virus and often improve on their own over time. Rest, fluids, and pain relief medication are usually the best treatment.

Allergy symptoms tend to linger and may include frequent sneezing or itchy eyes. These symptoms can often be managed with non-drowsy over-the-counter medications like Zyrtec® or Claritin®. If your child is under age 2, check with your pediatrician before starting any medication.

If you’re unsure what’s causing your child’s symptoms or if they aren’t improving, our Pediatrics East team is here to help guide you!

We wanted to share this important update from American Academy of Pediatrics!

Although the state of Tennessee only had 8 reported cases in 2025, measles cases are increasing in many parts of the country.

None of those 8 cases were in the Memphis-Shelby County region, and that's a testament to families in our community staying on track with recommended vaccine schedules.

Vaccination remains the best way to prevent measles. If you have questions about your child’s immunizations or measles exposure, our Pediatrics East team is always here to help.

Winter mornings often mean kids are heading to the bus stop before the sun comes up. Low visibility, traffic, and early-morning routines can make this time of day especially tricky.

A few simple steps can help keep kids safer on dark mornings:
👚 Wear bright or reflective clothing
🎒 Add reflective tags to backpacks
⚠️ Remind children to stay alert near roads and driveways
🚍 Take an extra moment to watch for the bus or walk younger children to the bus stop

Small habits like these help set kids up for safer starts to their school day during these darker winter months.

Our pediatricians see a lot of sore throats during sick visits, especially this time of year. While many sore throats are caused by viruses and improve on their own, strep throat is a bacterial infection that usually needs testing and treatment.

Because symptoms can overlap, it’s not always easy to tell the difference at home. If your child has throat pain, fever, or trouble swallowing, our Pediatrics East team is here to help guide you on next steps!
