This week: The ABCs of AAOS… C is COACHING!

For more than 100 years, Campbell has been training orthopaedic surgeons, from physicians fresh out of medical school to veteran surgeons refining skills and integrating new techniques and technology into their practices.

A key element is coaching, and it encompasses exposure to all facets of medicine, patient care and mentorship.

Six residents participated in AAOS this year, presenting research papers, scientific posters, and attending sessions to further surgical and leadership skills.

The Campbell culture of coaching is strong!

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) are traumatic or stressful events during childhood (ages 0-17) (abuse, neglect, household substance abuse, close family member mental illness, family incarceration, and domestic violence, etc.). Children who screen positive for ACEs might benefit from social or psychological support. The Campbell Clinic and Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital Pediatric Orthopedic team studied the ACE Childhood Trauma Test results for 213 new patients of a Level 1 Pediatric Hospital Fracture Clinic over 1 year. 35% had at least one ACE. Patients with at least one ACE were more likely female, live in a single parent home, have obesity, or have mental illness. This study - published in the Journal of the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America (JPOSNA) - provides insight into positive screening on the ACE Childhood Trauma Test for patients at an urban hospital pediatric fracture clinic. Providers and administrators should consider the psychological and social support available for these patients.

Update Crosstown 10K 🥶❄️

Due to weather predictions which would make a run unsafe, the Crosstown 5k/10k set for Saturday is now a virtual run. That means no slipping and sliding on snow and ice, but runners can run on a treadmill or in a neighborhood within a week and time themselves on an app (info on the virtual procedures will be sent to registrants by Start2Finish Events.)

Meanwhile packet pickups set for Thursday at Campbell Clinic Orthopaedics Clinic, Friday at Southern Security Federal Credit Union and Fleet Feet Memphis are postponed until next week, January 29 and 30. Additionally, Church Health is hosting a tee shirt pick up in the West Atrium on January 30 from 4 - 6 pm for those preferring to come to Crosstown Concourse. This may also involve beverages and snacks. More on this soon.

Thank you for your patience and understanding, and most of all, thanks you for your support of Church Health.
