Sexual Health by Psychotherapist Jennifer Valli Get the latest information on S*xual Health and S*xuality. She is committed to bringing you up-to-date articles on this page.

Jennifer Valli, PhD, is an Assistant Professor, a licensed psychotherapist and Certified S*x Therapist. Dr. Valli offers counseling and education on a variety of s*xual health issues. S*x is one of the deepest and most powerful experiences we have, yet it can also cause distress and shame when it does not go as smoothly as we feel it should. Many of us have been socialized to feel uncomfortable with this topic, even when sharing with our partners and physicians. Valli offers individuals and couples an opportunity to talk through their thoughts in a safe, non-judgmental space. She works collaboratively with clients, directly addressing the issues that are causing distress, while sharing information and suggestions based on current research in the field of S*xual Health. Clients may identify as heteros*xual, LGBTQIA, B**M practitioners, monogamous and those who are consensually non-monogamous.

If I could give you one piece of advice to hold in your heart, it would be to appreciate every second you have with the things that you love; be they places, objects, or people.... Because there is a last time for everything and you don't always know that it's the last time when you're in it.
There will be a last time you see a sunrise, a last time you taste ice-cream and a last time you smell a rose. There will be a last time you enter every room, a last time you hold every pet, and a last time you hear a loved one's voice.
Sometimes we know we're in those moments and we can savour every second of them - but so often we don't know until that moment is gone and it's too late to go back and relive it.
So hold onto those moments while you have them.... live inside them.... appreciate them to their fullest every time so you'll never regret taking them for granted one day when they're gone.

“But I haven’t achieved anything today,” she said.

And yet she’d bought an extra coffee for the man sat on the street outside the cafe.
She’d donated some books to charity on her way into work.
She’d sponsored her niece for the marathon she was running and she’d bought cakes for her colleagues ‘just because’.

She’d made people feel seen, valued, cared for.
She had achieved something so productive that it had the power to make someone’s day.

She had achieved kindness.

And the best part was…
she didn’t even realise
how well she’d done it.

*****
Never underestimate the power of your kindness ❤

Instead of saying, "I know what it feels like", let's say "I cannot imagine your heartbreak".

Instead of saying, "You're strong, you'll get through this, let's say " You'll hurt, and I'll be here.

Instead of saying, "You look like you're doing well, Let's say, "How are you holding up today?"

Instead of saying, "Healing takes time", let's say "Healing has no timeline".

Instead of saying, "Everything happens for a reason, let's say "This must feel so terribly senseless right now".

And when there are no words to say at all, you don't need to try and find some. Love speaks in silences too.

Couples- talk about ideal initiation. It doesn't mean each partner will be able to provide this type of initiation but its helpful for each of you to know.
Is it....
Assertive? Gentle? Playful?
Direct? Suggestive?
Eye contact? Body language?
Spontaneous? Planned?
At the end of the day? Morning? After a shower?
In private? A public space?
Speed or pressure preferences?
Romantic? Erotic? Playful or dirty/nasty tone?
Nonverbal, or would the other say something? What would they say? What would you say?
What about lighting, the location, ambiance?
Where on your body is touch welcome?
Then, if initiation was set up in this way, how would it make you feel?

Home I offer counseling and education on a variety of s*xual health issues.
