Chartered in 2004, the Notre Dame Club of Gettysburg is seen as one of the newer ND Alumni Clubs worldwide, but our ties to Notre Dame go back even further. “The Roots of the Fighting Irish start here”. Chartered in 2004, the Notre Dame Club of Gettysburg is seen as one of the newer ND Alumni Clubs worldwide, but our ties to Notre Dame go back even further. On July 2nd, 1863 Father William Corby, CSC and Chaplain of the Irish Brigade, gave General Absolution to his men on the fields of Gettysburg. Identical statues of Father Corby stand on the battlefield as well as on the grounds of Notre Dame, a gift from the Irish Brigade, to honor their beloved Chaplain.
