September Mental Health Minutes….
Reminder to those with mental health issues about dangers of cannabis use. Much of my work is educating folks on how cannabis increases anxiety( especially rebound anxiety), destabilizes mood, affect memory and focus in adhd. Please see Samhsa website for more information.

August Mental Health Minutes:

Feels like summer is winding down but we actually have over 6 weeks left, and so much we want to fit in!
Do you ever feel like there is much to do yet feel overwhelmed at getting started?

Make a list…✍️

Sounds like a “duh”moment but if you suffer from any neurodivergent / anxiety or even depression, making a list can be a way to get those actions done and checking them off is a dopamine hit!

I tend to make tons of them and lose them along the way, but if I can start a short list- maybe 5 things to do today…I am heading in the right direction.

Small actions mean a lot, I repeat ….small actions mean a lot.
Often something seems “too big” or “too much”, but broken down it becomes a reality.

Remember the “Pyramids weren’t built in a day.” (Just a saying, we won’t get into the politics on here…)

So make your list, check it off and be proud for your work today, you are worth it!✌️😊💕

June mental health minutes:
Is it Summer? ☀️☀️Is it warm - not here in Buffalo but trending…
Many times we are in phase of transition toward ➡️ or ⬅️ away from something we have known.
Either way fear has a way of creeping in there, making us question ourselves: “Did we do the right thing? Will I be okay? Maybe I should’ve done X,Y, Z?”
🤔So…how can we manage fear when it keeps us stuck in a situation that causes anxiety?
Welp, there are a few slogans ( 12 step based) that seem appropo here…

“Face Everything And Recover”
“False Evidence Appearing Real”
“Faith is Fear that said its Prayers. “

Little sayings that encourage us along.

We trust that as Summer will eventually come, so will change. We can rely that we have continually adapted in our life and will do so again, but little sayings and phrases help us to remember:
“Things tend to work out” - my fav.

Think of what may be one of your sayings and feel free to share below.

We all deserve to have some peace✌️of mind 🤯- even in uncertain times and we are well worth it! 💕

May mental health minutes:

2025: almost 1/2 through, which leads me to think about the old saying “Life goes by in the blink of an eye” or something like that.
When I think of time, especially of my kids growing up fast, I am reminded of the tool of “being present”.
So often we want the right photo🤳,hurry 🏃🏻‍♀️to the event we forget to feel the present moment.
Next time you feel rushed, anxious or that life is passing by too quickly.. try some mindfulness ( its a repeat skill but always a good reminder).
- Take a breath, look around using senses.
- what do you see 👀, hear 👂, smell 👃, feel 🥹 and touch ✋
- resist urge to “capture” the moment, just experience it.

Life happens when we are busy planning.

We deserve to enjoy every second and time will slow down when we do.

We are worth it! 🥰

April Mental health minutes:

April showers 🌧️ bring May 🌷🌷flowers….as the saying goes.
Recovery from mental health issues can feel like a series of tunnels 🌑and bright lights ✨.
We can get bogged down at times with depression or addictions and feel like it will never end, but most negative feelings do have an end point, we just have go through them and “ feel the feels” which can be painful.
Here is a little handout that may be helpful when someone you know or love may struggle with painful or suicidal thoughts:
It can be a difficult conversation to ask if someone is feeling hopeless or suicidal, but we all have dark times and it helps when one can talk about it and we are all worth it 🥰.

Happy March! Month of Irish 🍀, beginning of Spring 🌷🐦‍⬛ and Social Worker month!
These days much of therapy discussion is of social media and its effects on our mental health. Seems every thought, little bit of news 📰can be spun to fit whatever side of the spectrum they are marketing.
So how do you tell what is really going on in the world? 🤔Who can we trust to get reliable information?
There actually are some guidelines that can help us to analyze our most looked at sources. One way to help evaluate a reliable news source are using the SMART test:

Overall, mental health professionals caution to not spend too much time on social media, as the rates of depression and anxiety increase with use.
Try this Spring to spend more time enjoying nature, going for a walk and less time online for a better and healthier outlook! You are worth it 💕.
