Had to represent our logo in Greece, the origin country of the word “Ethos”. Here it is spelled ἦθος and pronounced “Ee-thoss”. It means character, guiding morals, and it is where we get the word “ethics”. It is a concept developed by the philosopher Aristotle.

We went to the site of the academy he studied in, run by his teacher, Plato. There wasn’t much to see there, but it was neat to feel the history of the thoughts developed there that guide what we do today.

Fun fact: came up with this idea for our name years before she was even on our staff!

Pelvic PT is a service provided at Ethos that we’re very proud of! Most folks don’t realize that these issues are related to muscles of the pelvic floor, the core and nervous system as one connected unit. Who better to treat them than an expert in musculoskeletal health!

Pelvic therapy helps with issues related to:

•urinary and bowel dysfunction - leaking, frequency, urgency, constipation, GI issues, hemorrhoids

•sexual function - painful pe*******on, difficulty achieving or**sm, erectile dysfunction, testicular pain

•surgical issues - hysterecomy, c section, endometriosis excision, hernia etc

•functional wellness - back pain, SI joint dysfunction, core weakness, tailbone pain

•prenatal and postpartum care - pregnancy aches and pains, labor prep, return to activity, diastasis rehab

We love to hear all about your successes! Today we’ll highlight one of Matt’s clients who had a huge improvement in his shoulder and back pain. He spent years in the fast paced world of restaurants, and his body was feeling the toll. Not only did Matt help him rehab his injuries, but also got him to new levels of strength with training. A lot of folks see pregnancy as a time to take it easy. “Don’t do too much, it’s not good for you or the baby!”⁣
⁣
Christine has seen the opposite in her years of work with pregnant women. “Move more, not less!” Hormones and the growth of the baby are consistently working to loosen up supportive ligaments in the body. That means if our muscles aren’t working well with each other, we’re going to be in a world of hurt! ⁣
⁣
It’s easy to think that “this is just a part of pregnancy.” But Christine sees over and over again that an active pregnancy is a healthy pregnancy. Her clients have the least aches and pains when they have a smart program of movements guided by a professional - not an influencer.⁣

We’re so excited to announce the addition of our newest member to the pelvic PT team, Madelaine Baco! ⁣⁣

Maddie caught Christine’s attention years ago when they had an hour long phone call to collaborate on a patient Maddie was referring for pelvic health. This was extra notable because the two had never met each other! Maddie’s passion for getting people the care they deserve along with her above and beyond attitude was visible from day one.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Maddie has practiced for years in orthopedics and her strong knowledge base makes her a double threat. If you tweak your neck the night before your pelvic appointment, she’s can switch gears and use her other set of skills. Always interested in pelvic health and disparities in care, Maddie created her own women’s health minor during in college. Her thoughtful and kind demeanor is palpable through her practice.⁣⁣

Christine has been personally mentoring Maddie for some time, and you may have already seen her around Ethos! The paralysis of beginning a rehab journey stops so many people from starting. We can get tricked into thinking we need a 100 step routine that’s going to take 3 hours a day.⁣
⁣
Matt excels at demystifying this process for his clients. “Do 2 or 3 things crafted specifically for you. Do them consistently and with intention - it can make a major impact.” Small changes really can project your progress forward, he sees this happen every day. ⁣
⁣
The exercises and drills that Matt creates for clients are made just for them. That’s why you’ll never see him give a print out of “10 shoulder stretches” that every gets. The details make the difference and his attention to them is compliments by all of his clients.⁣

Does your PT ever put their hands on you? A big part of treatment at Ethos is manual therapy and soft tissue manipulation. These are our PT words for how we treat you with our hands.⁣

What we sadly hear from clients who have tried PT in more traditional settings is “my therapist barely watched me do my exercises and they never even touched where my pain is.” ⁣
⁣
We’re believers that hands on care is an integral part of healing. We also think you should be able to do your homework at home! That’s why we spend the valuable time in our sessions doing things that only we can do for you with our doctorate level skillset⁣

One year at our Amherst location! We never imagined being in a position to have two locations and grow at the rate that we have. We couldn’t have done any of it without you!⁣

Ethos has been a labor of love for the three of us, working tirelessly to create the culture we always wanted for ourselves and our clients.
