Big News! Our Legislation is Complete!

Governor Patrick Morrisey has signed HB 5168 to create our state's first permanent EMS funding and SB 645 to reform out-of-network ambulance billing. Other bills signed into law expand education grants (HB 5212), enhance retirement benefits (SB 724 & SB 977), and protect first responders (SB 4)—representing the biggest changes to WV’s EMS system in decades.

By strengthening funding, updating insurance laws, expanding educational opportunities, and supporting our dedicated EMS professionals, West Virginia is reshaping emergency medical services for the future. Thank you to Patrick Morrisey and the numerous members of the West Virginia Legislature who played a part in this incredible progress!

Share this post and thank the Governor and any legislators you contacted during the session for their support.

We want to extend our sincere thanks to Senator Jason Barrett for his leadership and support in placing HB 5168 on the Finance Committee agenda. This important step helps move forward legislation that provides permanent state funding for EMS, a critical investment in emergency care for communities across West Virginia.

With committee action complete, HB 5168 now advances to the Senate floor, where we look forward to strong bipartisan support from the many Senators who have stood with EMS providers throughout this legislative session.
