We will continue to recommend Hepatitis B vaccine for ALL newborns at birth. See further information from the AAP below.

A statement from American Academy of Pediatrics President, Dr. Susan J. Kressly:

The decision by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to downgrade its recommendations to protect infants from hepatitis B is a dangerous move that will harm children.

The American Academy of Pediatrics continues to recommend routine hepatitis B vaccination for all newborns: All babies should receive a first dose of the hepatitis B vaccine within 24 hours of birth, a second dose at one to two months, and a third dose at six months. The pacing of these doses has been rigorously tested and proven to be safe and effective over several decades.

Vaccinating all newborns against hepatitis B effectively prevents transmission of the virus to newborns during childbirth, supports them to build immunity against potential childhood infections, and ensures long-term protection into adulthood from a virus that can cause serious liver disease and liver cancer. Infants and children can be exposed to this virus by close caregivers who may not know they are infected. Delaying the birth dose of the hepatitis B vaccine has no clear benefits and leaves children vulnerable to infection.

Check out this great advice on healthy smartphone use for kids.

A recent study found that twelve-year-olds who owned smartphones were more likely to experience depression and obesity and not get enough sleep than those without one. If your child or teen already has a smartphone: don’t panic. Here are a few ways you can help your child or teen set boundaries with their smartphone so it doesn’t crowd out other important activities like exercise, sleep, and quality time with friends and family. Are You Excited for Halloween and Trick or Treating?!!!

Here are some Tips to stay safe during all the fun!

🚗 Safety Tips for Drivers:
-Be alert for trick-or-treaters and pedestrians — little ones can be hard to spot.
-Slow down and scan the road carefully. Slower speeds save lives.
-Watch for children who may cross streets unexpectedly.
-If you see an impaired driver, contact law enforcement immediately.

🚶 Safety Tips for Pedestrians:
-Use the buddy system and make sure young children are always accompanied by an adult.
-Follow all traffic signals and signs; walk on sidewalks or well-lit paths.
-Cross only at crosswalks or intersections — and look both ways.
-Use reflectors, glow sticks, or flashlights to stay visible after dark.

Have a Happy Halloween!!!! 🎃 👻

FLU, COVID and RSV vaccines AVAILABLE NOW!

The fall respiratory season typically refers to the period of increased respiratory illness, including for the influenza (flu) virus, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) virus. Although it is possible to become infected year-round, infections from these viruses typically begin to rise in the fall, with peaks occurring during the winter months. Immunization remains one of the most effective interventions to reduce infections and prevent hospitalizations and deaths from these and other viruses.
