Topic: Integrating Yoga based movements and sounds to create an effective approach to Autism and other related disorders for young adults.
Presented by:
Meena Natarajan
Often children and individuals with autism and related disorders struggle with impairments of speech, lower verbal aptitude, and general anxiety. Because of this, it is very important for them to have relaxation techniques to help in calming down.
Using Yoga therapy we can combine modified physical movements, asanas, and enhanced breathing techniques with certain sounds and chants; we can also use different parts of the mouth to create a variety of vocalizations. The following can be practiced repeatedly and regularly.
• Exercise different muscles for different sounds to foster growth and improve language, speech, and breathing skills.
• Extend the vowels and combination of some sounds to prolong their exhalation and help calm their minds.
• Incorporate movements with chants.
