I grew up speaking Spanish at home and English in school.

About Ave Maria

“Be who you are meant to be and you will set the world on fire.” -St Catherine of Sienna I never imagined myself opening my own private practice. In May of 2019 I began to look for a new job and I received an email from Michelle Goodwill asking if any Catholic therapist would be interested in joining her and another woman to start a Catholic Counseling office in Gilbert. It seemed too good to be true. While I was trying to look for a job, I was trying to stay true to my Catholic values as I had begun the search. I decided to email her back and just let her know that I was interested. Shortly after, I received a response for an opportunity to meet up with Michelle so she could share her mission with me. Leaving my previous work as a counselor at Catholic Charities was difficult as I was working with refugee and unaccompanied minors and I loved what I did. However, I felt that this was a call from God to action. So after much prayer and encouragement, I took the plunge of quitting my full time job in September of last year to embark on this new adventure. When I began, I was unsure of what even to call the private practice that in itself seemed like a barrier to get started. I had thought about St. Francis of Assisi counseling as I have a great devotion to him. However, the name seemed way too long and so I decided to continue to bring up to prayer the name of the practice. Mother Mary always brings us closer to her son Jesus, and I thought what best name to have for the practice than Mary herself as the patroness. So the name came: Ave Maria Counseling Services. We have been opened since October of 2019 and even though the practice is Catholic one does not have to be Catholic, to receive mental health services here.
