PAP SMEARS

Per guidelines women, starting at age 21, should get a pap smear every 3 years. This screens for cervical cancer. If you have had your cervix removed it is still recommended to get your pap every 3 years as we can also test for vaginal cancer.

How is a Pap smear performed?
Providers use a speculum to open the vaginal canal and clearly identify the cervix. 3 brushes are then used to swab the cervix. A sample is collected from the swabs and is sent to a lab for results.

Results typically take 3-5 business days. We are testing for any atypical cells which could indicated pre-cancerous cells and if there is any high risk HPV present. HPV strains 16,18 and 45 are a leading cause of cervical cancer. However cervical cancer is one of the slowest growing cancers which is why screening is done every 3 years for normal results and every 6-12 months for abnormal results.

Today is World Diabetes Day 🩸

It is important to know the signs of diabetes, to prevent organ damage and other complications. These apply to children too, who can exhibit signs of Type 1 diabetes. DO NOT IGNORE THE SIGNS!

Scheduling your annual physical is the best way to assess for diabetes yearly. Our providers are well trained in diagnosing and treating diabetes.
