Welcome to day two of Parkinson’s Awareness Month. For me I can’t help thinking back where I was 8 years ago when I was diagnosed. I didn’t know much about it and to my knowledge had never met anyone with PD. So much has changed since then. Those of you with PD know what I’m talking about and those who don’t have PD should know more. As fast as PD is spreading you will eventually know someone with it.

I knew early in my diagnosis that I had a decision to make. What was I going to do with this information(diagnosis). I could sit around and do nothing and get worse as the PD progressed or I could fight it. That’s what I chose to do. I got involved with Rock Steady Boxing and it changed my life. It’s a program that can slow down the progression of the symptoms. I’m living proof that it works.

All the work I did at boxing gave me hope. The other key is I maintained a very positive attitude. As things progressed I became involved with the Parkinson’s Foundation which again, changed my life. I am now the President of the Southwest Chapter Board. Say it with me, it changed my life. It gave me purpose.

So in closing I have a very positive attitude, hope, and purpose. I say if you can live your life with hope and purpose you can do anything. Including fight PD. Do something today to inspire someelse fighting this terrible disease. And know that in doing so you can change lives.

Let’s do it during Parkinson’s Awareness Month.
