Neuro Wellness Center

Neuro Wellness Center Neuro Wellness Gilbert is a “Safe Haven” of friendship, exercise, art, education and support for the movement disorder community.

The wellness center, open since January 2012, was made possible by the philanthropy of Gilbert residents Alan Fitzgerald and his wife, Sheila, who attends as part of her management program for her Parkinson's. Outreach Program Manager Annette Edwards said that the center’s long-term goal is to “develop a program that is proven to be effective and can be duplicated. The goal is for the Neuro Wellness Center to set the bar for effective long-term treatment for individuals with Parkinson’s disease.”

BNW Community!

Just a reminder for Coffee Talk tomorrow (Friday August 15th). It will NOT be at 10am! We will be joined by Dr. Mahant from 3-4pm! She will be coming to talk to us about Onapgo, a new subcutaneous infusion device that was FDA-approved back in February for Parkinson's Disease.

She will be coming to talk to us in greater detail about what it is, and to answer all your questions about Onapgo. She is a wealth of information and always draws a big crowd, so be sure to come early. We will also still have coffee and donuts. ☕️🍩

We are looking forward to having you join us tomorrow AFTERNOON to learn from Dr. Mahant!

BNW Community!

We are excited to announce that we are going to be stating a NFL Weekly Pick 'em! What is a Weekly Pick 'em? Each week during the NFL season, you simply pick what team you think is going to win! We will provide sheets of the teams playing that week at the front desk, and you can purchase the sheets for $5 per week. You can participate in just one week, multiple weeks, every week of the season, however often you'd like to. We will be sending out an email this week with further instructions and if you have questions, feel free to reach out to Damarris or Kelli!

This past Friday (August 8th, 2025) at Coffee Talk, the BNW Ukulele Club joined Music Therapist Piper, and presented a short ukulele concert followed by some fun exercises that are commonly done in music therapy. We had such a great time together!

What are Plyometric Exercises?
Plyometric exercises are high impact, explosive movements that require energy storage of the body and a quick release of that energy storage for a powerful explosive movement. Some example exercises include jump squats, depth-jumps, medicine ball toss/slam and box jumps.
Benefits of Plyometrics
• Increasing heart rate which in turn strengthens the efficiency of the cardiovascular system by increasing blood circulation, increased oxygen transportation and regulation of blood pressure.
• Prevents musculoskeletal injuries by strengthening muscles, tendons, and joints.
• Improves neuromuscular coordination (nervous and muscular system work together to execute smooth, efficient and controlled movements).
• Building muscle mass in fast-twitch muscles fibers.
• Burning calories and supporting fat loss.
• Increasing metabolic rate due to higher excess post-oxygen consumption (EPOC) due to intensity of exercises.
• Increasing bone density and lower the risk of osteoporosis in the future.
• Increasing flexibility and range of motion

This past Friday’s Coffee Talk was a Member Spotlight featuring Jim Render. It was well attended and Jim shared about his journey with Lewy body Dementia (LBD), which shares common traits with Parkinson’s. We also learned that Jim was in a rock band when he was young and created rock band related artwork (some which are on display at the Rock and Roll Museum). Jim also shared about how coming to Banner Neuro Wellness has been such a big help in his journey.

BNW Community!!

We have a few exciting Coffee Talks coming in the next few weeks!

This Friday is our next Member Spotlight with Jim Render! Come support him and learn more about his journey with Parkinson's, and how coming here has been such a big help in his journey.

The following Friday, July 25th, Coffee Talk will be "In Your Prime Day" where we will be looking at photos from our community "In Their Prime." If you would like to participate, we would like all photos to be submitted by next Wednesday, July 23rd. Photos can be from infancy, youth, or teenage years. We want to see who has changed and who still looks the same! You can sent photos through email or bring them in-person and we can scan them in. If you are unable to attend but would still like to participate (highly encouraged), we ask that you also submit or bring in a current photo of yourself so we can see the side-by-side comparison.

We look forward to you joining us for Coffee Talk every Friday at 10am. As always, coffee and donuts are provided! ☕️🍩🙌
