There was a significant milestone this week - I was able to go out for a jog for the first time in 5 Weeks šŸ˜…

The run wasn't a pleasant experience, but the discomfort in my foot never got any worse. When I arrived at the park, I told myself I would be happy with 2 Laps (1.75 Miles) or 20 Minutes - whichever came first. That would put me about a week behind where I left off when I hurt myself.

My goal felt very doable, so I kept going and rounded it up to 2 Miles (25 Minutes). When I stopped running, the discomfort blossomed into pain, and I began to second-guess my decision to try running. Fortunately, I was back to normal a couple of hours later.

While I'm not ready to get back to my 10K Program, I am going to start working in a run once per week. As it becomes more comfortable, I'll add sessions until I can run 3x per week again.

Another week is in the books and I'm pleased with the ongoing progress I've been making.

My Achilles Tendonitis seems to be nearly cleared up. I can walk pain-free with minimal discomfort going down stairs. I will test the waters next week with a light jog to gauge when I can return to my 10K Program.

Almost 4 weeks ago, I was out running and hurt my foot (Achilles Tendonitis). Simply put, injuries in your 40's are no fun. Healing seems to take forever, especially when it affects fitness goals.

Sometimes, I feared that "Resting" my tendon would derail my progress. One day of limited activity might lead to two, then three, and then maybe fitness would become a distant memory. It certainly wouldn't be the first time I fell off the wagon.

In a sense, this injury has been beneficial. It has taught me that there is more than one way to reach a goal. Through trial and error, I found workarounds that have kept me active and reminded me that mixing things up can be fun.

Riding laps on my bike around the housing development isn't very exciting, but I like doing it. There is something about parking my bike and walking on wobbly legs that puts a smile on my face.

Strength Training is something that I used to love doing. Dipping my toe back into it feels like I'm waking a slumbering beast. Lifting heavy things feels fantastic, and it will be my focus after I finish what I started in the 10K Running Program.

For now, I'm taking it one day at a time, and I'm pleased with my progress so far.

When I ride laps in the development, I sometimes wish I would have gone with a Road Bike instead of a Mountain Bike. Either way, it is a good workout. Today was a personal best for me - Longest Distance (8.50 Miles) and Most Calories Burned (452).

Week 12 presented several hurdles but I did my best to end the week strong.

Over the past several months, I've been working towards becoming more active. One of the ways I wanted to accomplish that was to get myself a bike and start riding.

I haven't been on a bike since I was a kid and didn't know where to start. I asked around, and several people recommended that I check out Perkiomen Bicycles in Schwenksville, PA.

My wife and I stopped in for a visit and left with brand-new bicycles for the two of us. The experience was great, and I highly recommend Perkiomen Bicycles.
