One of the benefits of outpatient surgery is recovering in the comfort of home.

A smooth recovery starts with preparation: following your care instructions, arranging your ride, asking questions ahead of time, and giving yourself the space to rest and heal. Our team is here to help patients feel informed and supported every step of the way.

Good outcomes begin with good preparation.

During National Women’s Health Week, we want to encourage women everywhere to make their health a priority.

Over 1 in 4 women report postponing or skipping routine women's healthcare visits each year. When pain, discomfort, or a lingering issue is affecting your quality of life, it matters. Taking the next step to improve your health is important.

Your health deserves attention, too.

For National Volunteer Week, we’re proud to recognize Robert Tolman, Sterile Processing Coordinator at Powder River Surgery Center.

Robert’s path into healthcare is a reminder that meaningful careers often begin with a single conversation. He started at PRSC as a custodian. One day, he spoke with the facility’s director about an opening in sterile processing. That conversation led him to step into a new role that would place him at the heart of surgical care.
Today, Robert works behind the scenes in one of the most critical areas of our surgery center.

As he puts it, “We handle surgical instrumentation and specialty medical devices that get used on patients during their surgeries or procedures. It’s our job to make sure that the items are clean, disinfected, and properly inspected, so they can be used again.”
Sterile processing demands precision, discipline, and a sharp eye for detail. In Robert’s words, “It’s ideal kind of being a perfectionist in this type of career field.” Every tray, every instrument, and every device plays a role in patient safety.

But Robert’s impact goes beyond the walls of the surgery center.
He is actively working to introduce more young people to the world of sterile processing, a profession many do not even realize exists. While most people think first of nurses and physicians when they think of healthcare, Robert wants students to see the many essential allied health professional careers that make surgery possible. He has been reaching out to schools with a vision of building a pathway for the next generation of sterile processing professionals.

His goal is to give students hands-on exposure to the field, whether sterile processing becomes their long-term career or a steppingstone into other healthcare roles. It is a profession that does not require a traditional degree to enter, yet offers real opportunity, valuable experience, and a critical role in surgical care.

This National Volunteer Week, we thank Robert not only for the vital work he does each day, but for the initiative he is taking to invest in others and strengthen the future of healthcare in our community.
