One year ago today I left my job as a Pelvic Physical Therapist at a hospital after more than a decade to build my own practice.
I have not regretted one second of all the hard work I have put in over this last year to make Essential Foundations Pelvic Physical Therapy what it is today! I knew I could develop a practice that was 100% focused on the best patient care. I have grown more than I ever expected in 12 months and I am so grateful for everyone who supported me along the way.
I am proud to now offer the services of dry needling to patients with pelvic pain and I have already seen what a positive impact it can have when included into treatment sessions.
This year I am also excited to be offering labor and birth prep sessions to support women physically before they even enter the post partum phase! 🥂 Cheers to another great year!

Somewhere along the line we have bought into the fact that it is normal to leak urine.

"I can't laugh without leaking, but you know I had 2 kids!"

"I can't jump on the trampoline with my kids, I will p*e myself. I tried Kegels but they don't work"

"I can't squat heavy without p*eing on the gym floor, I have to where a pad to every workout."

These are just the statements I have heard this week. It is NOT normal to leak urine even if you have had multiple children.

Leakage that occurs with increased stress to your pelvic floor such as lifting and jumping is usually to do with not being able to manage abdominal pressure, poor posture and core activation and poor recruitment of your pelvic floor muscles. Leakage will rarely ever be fixed with millions of Kegels. A pelvic floor physical therapist can help guide you in learning how to control your breath, active your core and pelvic floor muscles in functional ways that will make a huge difference in your life.

Help break the myth that leakage is normal and something you have to accept as part of your everyday life!

So you just had a baby....
You are getting into a routine and are figuring out how to read your baby's signs and signals. You go for your 6 week check up and your Obgyn says you are great to start exercising, resume s*x, and start loosing weight. You are fine you don't need to be seen again and you can go back to work in another 6 weeks. 🤯
You have s*x for the first time and you have pain.
You try to do a normal workout and you notice you leak or you are too winded to finish.
It is the great myth that is being told to women that their body miraculous is "good to go" in 6 weeks.
The 4th trimester is a real thing. You need to give your body the grace to heal and be restored after 9 months of growing a human being. In a perfect world every woman who had just given birth should be under the care of a pelvic physical therapist. They are the bridge in the gap between your 6 week follow up and getting you back to your "normal" and living without dysfunction. 🏵️
