There are actually different types of hemorrhoids that can emerge, with different types of symptoms. Internal hemorrhoids are often painless, whereas external hemorrhoids are usually painful when you sit down for extended periods of time.

A hemorrhoidectomy is often recommended when other nonsurgical treatments (such as exercise and medication) for hemorrhoids have failed. This is a minor outpatient surgery that only involves a local anesthetic.

A Laparoscopic Colectomy is a minimally invasive procedure done in which a small light, camera, and other instruments are used in the colo-rectal area. Procedures such as Colon Extraction and Segment Resection can be done using this method as well.

What should I expect from hernia surgery? Your general surgeon will offer that information in advance of the procedure. In many cases, hernia surgery takes no more than 30 minutes and can be performed on an outpatient basis. You may be able to return to work or school in as little as a day.
