This little guy impresses me every time I see him. The picture on the left was taken at our initial evaluation, the picture on the right was taken after 4 sessions. Why is that so impressive you may think, well let me tell ya.
If we can not get our tongue to “suction” to the roof of the mouth, we will have trouble with proper tongue posture (our whole tongue should lightly rest on the roof of the mouth), it helps with nasal breathing, and with our swallow. Now look at the picture again, do you see why I am so impressed 😊

To help my clients that are suffering with muscle tightness from clenching and grinding, I recommend Denticalm. It helps to relax the tension so we can work to get to the root cause ! It uses essential oils along with magnesium. Check them out at denticalm.com use code WyoMyo30 for 30% off. No kickbacks to me just want to help spread the word of this great product!

Another thing I wish I knew as a young Mom….. those pouches and soft puff snacks…… they do nothing to help develop the muscles of the mouth. They are ok for quick snacks from time to time but not for everyday. Babies need to learn to chew, it helps develop those cheek muscles, makes the tongue move around - transferring food from one side to the other. It can also help when they are teething !

Seriously!!! If I knew then what I know now as a new Mom , I would do things so different. But I didn’t know 🤷‍♀️. One thing I wish I was told about was the binky/ paci whatever you call it. Even in hygiene school they never told us how it can impact the growth and development of the mouth…… so for all you Momma’s out there let’s talk about it. There is a place and a time for them . I recommend they are gone by 6months of age…. Yes I said it . I know that can be hard but let me explain why. If there is something in the mouth the tongue is not able to be on the roof of the mouth. Contrary to what you see in the store there is no “orthodontic “ pacifier. Our tongue is what helps develop the roof of the mouth- it is our natural orthodontic retainer. There is so much more we could discuss about on this topic, please reach out if you want to continue the discussion.

If your release provider is not having you do pre and post op work before having a lip, cheek or tongue tie , you may want to ask about them.
Would you go into a medical procedure without being prepped first? PT, OT , etc Or have post operative care; active would care, PT, OT , etc. You need to be physically and mentally prepared for those procedures the same as you do for oral releases.
Working with an Orofacial Myologist does all that and more. We first determine if there are restrictions and are those restrictions prohibiting proper function. If they do need to be released we help prep you for that- most need to have some form of body work before and after , we mentally prepare you for the procedure and then follow you there the active wound care and then finally help your muscles to function properly afterwards.
I have seen clients that have had several releases with providers that did not “prep” them ….. and now there is so much scar tissue we have to deal with 😕
