I get it, it's hard to get to a gym with constantly being on the run...

But what if I told you it's VERY simple to start moving more! If you have a roof over your head, you can move. And it doesn't have to be perfect!

All you need is a few basic movements, consistency, and a starting point.

Squat. Push. Hinge. It's not that deep, MOVE!

That's enough to build a resilient body, and your body will thank you for it later!

A question I get a lot... "Why do my shins start killing me when I get back to running?"

Short answer: Doing too much too fast!

Long answer: Limited ankle and foot mobility/strength can create dysfunction and discomfort up the chain, you do not have enough capacity (yet) to perform the amount of mileage you're currently running, and you need to properly progress in a way that makes sense.

And orthotics can help, but it doesn't always makes sense... very case dependent.

Spent the weekend at the Pinnacle Bank Shootout watching some extremely talented athletes!

It reminded me of a few things that matter for long-term athletic development.

1. Load management matters- Growing and maturing bodies need recovery as much as training. They are NOT mutually exclusive.

2. Multiple sports breeds resilience- Playing more than one sport trains multiple planes, movements, and athletic scenarios creating a more durable athlete.

3. Stakes should match maturity- Sports should build confidence and character, not be an identifier for children.

The goal should be to create durable and resilient athletes.

Parents, coaches, and athletes... keep the long game in mind. And GOOD LUCK to TBHS and CCHS as their winter seasons are coming down to the wire.

Similar to habits, stress can build overtime and increase tension and irritation in our neck!

Small habits can either help or hurt you in regards to your health.

We all have things that we can improve upon, but do you have the right team around you to not only evaluate those habits, but be able to give you simple steps to help realistically achieve what you want?

If you have something you want to change, I highly encourage you to find someone that can hold you to higher standards. Because your health is worth a lot more than we tend to give it credit for!

Posture is so quickly blamed for aches and pains, but we often fail to get to the root. No one was made to sit for a 9-5 shift at a desk without getting up and moving around!

Posture can give us insight into habits/strategies that have been used often for years at a time and can certainly be nuanced. But MORE often, shifting from being sedentary to even a little more movement during the day can make a big difference!
