This fun food holiday encourages people to indulge in their favorite types of chips, whether they're tortilla chips, potato chips, or pita chips, paired with a wide variety of delicious dips.

National Lacy Oatmeal Cookie Day is celebrated in March each year, honoring the delicious lacy oatmeal cookie, which is characterized by its thin, crispy texture and rich flavor derived from oats and other ingredients.

The history of this holiday isn't particularly well-documented, but it falls within the broader context of the appreciation for cookies in American culture, which dates back to the colonial era. Oatmeal cookies themselves have roots in traditional recipes that made use of oats, a staple grain, due to their nutritional value and availability.

As oats gained popularity, particularly during the health-conscious movements of the 20th century, oatmeal cookies became a common treat, celebrated for being both delicious and wholesome. The "lacy" aspect typically refers to the way the cookies spread out thinly during baking, creating delicate, lace-like edges.

On National Lacy Oatmeal Cookie Day it served as a fun occasion for our resident cookie lovers to enjoy this delightful treat, whether homemade or store-bought, and to experiment with different recipes and variations.

Today we received a heartfelt letter that truly touched our hearts. Written by Dan Frachey, it expresses profound gratitude for the compassionate care provided to his lifelong friend, Steve Balkcom, during a very difficult time.

Dan highlighted the many acts of kindness our dedicated staff showed, from helping with meals to providing comfort. It’s a powerful reminder of the caring community we strive to build, especially in moments when kindness can mean so much.

Thank you, Dan, for your beautiful words and for entrusting us with Steve’s care. We are honored to have been there for you both. 🌟💌

Please join us in congratulating our 2025 Employee of the Year, Holly!!

What people have said about Holly:
✨ She’s our therapist
✨ The building wouldn’t stand without her
✨ How does she know so much about everything that makes this place run

Holly Zirkle was chosen to be our employee of the year for 2025.
Choosing Holly was a good one, even though she says, “It should have been someone else.”

When pressed as to why she may have gotten employee of the year,
she says, “I try to do my job well and people like me.” That is a way to succeed at work. As noted in her employee of the month write-up, she answers everyone’s questions and helps with everything from timecards to staplers to doctors’ appointments to copy machines to applications.
She solves problems with composure
and a smile. Sixteen years of experience have made her the top frog at the facility.

She’s everyone’s buddy because, as she describes herself, “(She’s) not the stereotypical female. I like camo. I wear hoodies. I feel more comfortable in blue jeans and a T-shirt than in a fancy dress. I don’t spend 45+ minutes on my hair, unless I have something important to do. I’d rather walk around barefoot, in my boots, or with sandals than in heels. I like to get dirty. I watch Netflix.
I talk with my mouth full of food. But you know, at least I have some personality. I’ve got friends and a family that matter to me.”

As she’s said before, “It’s about the people.” People are showing as they pass by her, saying “Hi, Holly!” or coming over to vent that she’s someone who matters to them.

Plus, she may have been a frog in a past life. 🐸

Congratulations Holly – well deserved!

💙 Celebrating National Wear Blue Day at Gilman Healthcare Center!

We proudly donned our blue attire to raise awareness for colon cancer during National Wear Blue Day! This special day began as part of the Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month initiative, aimed at educating communities about the importance of early detection and prevention.

Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, but it is also one of the most preventable types of cancer. By wearing blue, we show our support for those impacted by this disease and promote vital screenings and awareness.

Our residents and staff had a fantastic time donning their blue outfits and sharing information on how to stay healthy and proactive. Together, we’re making a difference!

Let's continue to spread the word about the importance of colorectal health and stay united in the fight against cancer!
