There are many older adults who are hundreds of miles away from family and friends. Many times, our Visiting Angels Home Care Aides are the only source of human interaction for them which can lead to a slippery slope into loneliness, depression, and a host of other issues. Many don't like to eat alone, or don't want to drive any more so they may even find themselves not eating as they should. This post shares some ideas, if you or your loved one need to fight isolation.
Senior Centers in the area are great places to visit and get involved in, by the way. The hospitals always welcome volunteers. Local organizations have events you can go to alone-the Elks Lodge members, for example, have weekly dinners you can attend to (with or without a partner). Rotary Clubs have lunches and many events.
But if you are more into one-on-one interactions, say hello to your neighbor...or if you could use the help of a visitor at least twice a week, think of our Visiting Angels! They're the type of companion who could also help you with personal care, light housekeeping, errands, etc. At least have a pet (they are great conversation starters). Just don't go into isolation...
