January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, a reminder to take simple steps that can save lives.
Cervical cancer often has no symptoms in its early stages, which is why regular screening matters. Pap tests and HPV tests can find changes early - before cancer develops.
You can lower your risk by:
✔ Getting the HPV vaccine (recommended for preteens and available through age 26, and in some cases up to age 45)
✔ Getting regular Pap and HPV tests
✔ Encouraging those in your life to do the same!
In Illinois, you may qualify for free or low-cost Pap tests and screenings through the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (IBCCP) - with no income requirements.
