Our Story
Daphne is a C-IAYT (yoga therapist) and RYT-500 (yoga teacher). Daphne has done some yoga poses since childhood, like forward beds, splits, and plow. Daphne dabbled in yoga as an adult yet began a consistent yoga practice in 2011 in her late forties. In that same year, Daphne started coordinating a gentle yoga class on on the Inpatient Psychiatry ward at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, with the help of Red Cross volunteer yoga teachers. Yoga was very beneficial for Daphne’s back pain, and she wanted to know more. Daphne started a Yoga Teacher Training program in 2012 and began to teach psychiatric inpatients at Walter Reed, along with Red Cross yoga teachers.
After graduating from teacher training, Daphne expanded the program at Walter Reed and taught yoga classes 3 times per week. More Red Cross volunteer yoga teachers were recruited to teach, which allowed for 4-7 classes per week. This was and likely still is the only yoga program nationwide and perhaps worldwide of this nature. Daphne left Walter Reed in 2015, and a volunteer took over the Yoga Program Coordinator position, who continues to run the program to this day.
In 2015 Daphne moved to Michigan and completed a second Master's degree in Yoga Therapy. Experiencing her own structural body issues and seeing medical issues in students led her to focus increasingly on utilizing yoga to address these issues. Daphne has been teaching the staff at the VA Medical Center in Saginaw for over 3 years, and also teaches at Whole Body Health in Gladwin.
Daphne loves to share the benefits of yoga for a variety of medical conditions, as well as for it's calming effect and overall feeling of wellness. Daphne prides herself on utilizing her knowledge base to help others, and continually educates herself and others about the extraordinary benefits of a regular yoga practice.
