Hey y'all! You may not know this because it's a secret menu item but we have a group that meets on Saturday mornings at 6:30am at SOLY to practice Mysore Style Yoga with Erik Marrero!
Erik is a phenomenal teacher and we highly recommend reaching out to Erik if this feels like something you feel called to do. Here's why we love it:
☀️ Self-Paced Practice, Individual Attention
-Unlike typical led yoga classes, Mysore-style is self-led: each student moves through the sequence at their own pace.
-Erik is present to offer hands-on adjustments, guidance, and support, not to lead a class with cues.
-It meets you exactly where you are — beginners and advanced students can practice side by side.
☀️Builds Consistency and Discipline
-Mysore encourages daily (or near-daily) practice, which leads to:
*Deeper familiarity with your body and breath.
*A more intimate relationship with the sequence and your personal growth.
*It instills a rhythm and a sense of commitment that’s not always cultivated in drop-in or varied-style classes.
☀️Cultivates Breath & Focus
-Because there’s no external instruction during the practice, your focus deepens.
*You become more attuned to your breath, drishti (gaze), and internal rhythm, which sharpens presence and mindfulness.
☀️Personalized Progression
-Erik introduces poses slowly, one at a time, based on readiness.
*This builds strength, confidence, and safety, and avoids rushing into advanced postures before you’re ready.
☀️Less Comparison, More Inner Work
-Without a group pace or constant instruction, there’s less pressure to “perform”.
-You’re encouraged to turn inward, confront frustration, celebrate quiet breakthroughs, and explore deeper layers of practice.
☀️Community, Without Uniformity
-Mysore rooms are often quiet, respectful, and community-centered.
-You practice “alone, together,” which creates a unique sense of shared dedication without competition.
