POV: You’ve injured your shoulder, and you’re a physical therapist AND a Pilates instructor…. 🙃

No getting out of this rehab! All jokes aside, Pilates and physical therapy can go hand in hand very nicely- for more than just pelvic health conditions.

If you’re new to Pilates or fearful of movement, reach out- I’m always happy to help people get moving- DESPITE an injury- in fact I would absolutely encourage you to move in the presence of an injury. I’m full of modifications 😉

I actually think wearables and tracking information can be a little overwhelming for some people (and can end up doing more harm than good) - but they can also be really helpful to just give us a little insight into our own bodies and how our body responds to food, sleep, exercise and stress.

I’ve been wearing the oura ring for almost a year now and I love that it doesn’t have a screen that I interact with during the day (sorry Apple Watch- we just had to break up, you were too much for me 💔)

I’m not going to sit here and pretend I always practice what I preach, I do not 😅 I’m human. However after a rough winter of darkness, freezing temps, holidays and a cold, my readiness score and my sleep scores were tanking.

I changed two things- I went to sleep about 30-45 min earlier every night and added about 3-5 min (literally just 3-5 min) of HIIT to my workouts about 2-3x a week.

And both scores went up. And I felt a LOT better. And it happened almost immediately. Little changes can lead to big results.

Sometimes a little biofeedback can give you that positive reinforcement to keep making good decisions for you body and your health 🤍

Sleep, nutrition, movement and stress management are major foundations of our overall health.

We can do all the things in physical therapy to address musculoskeletal and neuromuscular impairments, but we might not move the needle if some of these things are out of whack.

If you’re a human, living on planet earth, it’s likely not all of these things will be balanced all the time- if ever 😅
(If you’re a dog in this household however, you’ll live forever in perfect health, because all of the above pillars are in perfect alignment… it’s the dogs’ house and the humans are just here to pay the bills)

That being said, where can we support those foundations when one is lacking?

First we have to identify what’s lacking, and sometimes when you’re IN IT, it’s hard to zoom out and take a look at each component on your own…. I’m here to help 🤍

You might think you’re here for Physical Therapy and Pilates, but when you open up the door to leave the clinic… you’ll see these faces (and one more who’s usually at the front door!)

And they think you’re here for them…..And they know they’re cute 🥰

I had the absolute pleasure of speaking with Tammy from the Limitless Ladies Network last week about pelvic health-specifically prolapse. When she reached out about doing a podcast episode I thought- fantastic! More ways to spread the word about pelvic health and how physical therapy can help!

Tammy does a a great job educating and serving women in all aspects of the wellness space- specifically how to improve their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Check out the podcast below and her blog post that summarizes the episode!

Feeling awfully grateful these past few weeks…

We had a great turnout out Pilates and pick your own flowers at 7 acres farm- hoping to do more of these next year! 🌸🌹🌻

Venlo was a superstar at our last show and made it to the jump off 3 times to actually win some ribbons (Big deal for anyone who knows us as a pair…)

My brother and sister in law welcomed their baby Livia- she’s absolutely perfect 🤩 and now I’m an Auntie!

Fall weather has been in full swing with beautiful days allowing for evening rides and hikes with the dogs

…oh and we have a new furry friend, Roux 🐾…because we like to vacuum 😅 we love him! 🤍

Every day always comes with its own set of challenges and obviously this is just a highlight reel-but it’s nice to take a moment of gratitude 🩷 Appreciate and highlight for yourself what’s going well!

Love a little cross body activation for those oblique slings! Opposite arm and leg work can help to create stability around the pelvis and SI joint- really great for low back and pain and/or during pregnancy while you’re still comfortable on your back!

*Ideally the band would be self anchored- but this room has the best lighting and nothing to tie it to 🤷🏼‍♀️

I couldn’t help but jump on this trend… mostly because I obviously love Pilates (this is a physical therapy and Pilates account after all!) but also, I do enjoy a very specific hobby that could definitely punish me with death if I make a major mistake 😅

That being said- Pilates has helped to keep my core and hips strong and flexible so I can continue to ride without back pain…something I struggled a lot with riding growing up.

Whatever your goal or hobby is, Pilates can help and I’m happy to help achieve it- whatever end of the spectrum your nervous system is on 🤍

Some balancing spine fitter fun…and yes I fall too 😅we all need to work on balance! And remember what goes on at the foot and ankle ties in closely to the pelvic floor!

Happy October! 🍁🍂 Even thoguh it feels like summer in New England right now, fall is here… which means so are the pumpkins!!!🎃

Pumpkins can be heavy (especially when you buy multiple and don’t like making more than 1 trip from the car 🫣)…

Carry your pumpkins close to your body and squat down with good control to place them on the ground to protect your spine! Remember not to hold your breath and exhale on exertion for your pelvic floor and abdominal engagement 😉

Happy pumpkin season! 🧡🧡
