Play It Safe On and Off the Field

September is Sports Eye Safety Month, and it’s more than just a date on the calendar, it’s a reminder that eye injuries in sports and everyday activities are all too common, but mostly preventable.

Whether you’re a weekend warrior, a school athlete, or a parent cheering from the sidelines, here’s what you need to know:

Eye injuries can happen outside contact sports. Think racquet sports, cycling, even DIY home projects.

If your eye is struck, don’t rub it. Apply a cold compress without pressure and seek care if symptoms develop.

Safety glasses matter. Look for impact-resistant polycarbonate lenses, especially those meeting ASTM F803 standards.
