Some of my FAVORITE consults are with the whole fam!
A momma is going back to work and having her parents as caregivers, and wanted us to all be on the same page about bottle feeding.

(Yes, WE DO THAT)đŸŒđŸŒ

Grandma came in and practiced a feeding and did great, with up to date information and feeding positioning, and got to practice hands on, with support, and ask questions and play with the new fangled bottles.
Auntie came along for the visit too!😍

We had fun, in a relaxed way, and it just reminded me how infant feeding really is a family affair.

Bring your caregivers! Nannies, day care providers, Dads, whoever will be feeding baby — we’ll practice, make a plan, go over safe formula and breastmilk prep and storage. And make sure mom is ready too.
We got you, family!
Come see us in person or virtually, for all of it.

MYTH:
“You must make skin milk”.
Full stop.
95% of the time, poor weight gain is a total volume issue. Read more đŸ‘‡đŸœ

This is one of those myths that sounds logical on the surface and causes so much unnecessary guilt for parents.

Breast milk is not “too low in fat” for healthy babies. Human milk is a living, adaptive food designed specifically for human infants. Its fat content naturally changes during a feeding, throughout the day, and across the weeks and months to meet a baby’s needs. That variation is normal and purposeful, not a flaw. There is no evidence that a parent’s milk is inherently inadequate or missing nutrients in a way that prevents weight gain in an otherwise healthy baby.

When a baby isn’t gaining weight as expected, the most common reason is that they aren’t getting enough total milk volume, not that the milk itself lacks calories or fat. Weight gain is about intake and transfer. If a baby struggles with latch, oral function, stamina, feeding frequency, or efficiency, they may not be able to take in enough milk, even if the milk is perfectly nourishing. Think of it like having a fridge full of amazing food but a door that won’t open all the way. The issue isn’t what’s inside the fridge.

This is why focusing on feeding mechanics, milk transfer, feeding patterns, and baby’s overall health matters so much more than questioning the quality of someone’s milk. Breast milk is not the problem. The goal is helping baby access enough of it, comfortably and effectively, so they can grow the way they’re meant to.

Oh gosh , is the entire planet sick right now??đŸ€§đŸ˜·đŸ€’
It seems that way.

We always get this question: if I’m sick should I still breastfeed đŸ€±đŸ»

Yes. Absolutely, in most cases.
Your baby mostly likely has been exposed to whatever you’ve got. And the very best thing about breastmilk is those antibodies. Those little infection fighters.

Your body makes them in real time when whatever ick is happening; pops them right into the breastmilk for your baby to get some protection.đŸ€©
Some infections need care; if you have an open herpes lesion near the ni**le or if you’re too ill to direct breastfeed, you might need help to pump
do not stop breastmilk removal abruptly!

🩠Make sure to get enough fluids
💊Stay away from large amounts of peppermint or sage teas.
đŸ§«Tylenol or Ibuprofen is perfectly fine in breastmilk, if you’re not allergic
đŸ©șSome cold and Flu meds can hinder milk supply (sneaky) BE CAREFUL with those all in one meds that you are aware what’s in them. Anything that can dry up your nose can potentially do the same to your milk supply.
đŸ’ȘđŸœđŸ’ȘđŸœBaby will literally get protected from your milk!
Obviously, if you have questions about other specific viruses or infections, please check with an experienced IBCLC in your community, or reach out here!

Looking back is fun, and info is good to learn from.
The latter part/ Fall of 2025 was
 something. 😣

We definitely saw a drop in visits when we lost the ability to bill Anthem in July.
We’ve gratefully begun partnering with LCA, Lactation Consultants of America, which has allowed us to be able to help more clients, but let me be raw and honest, it was NOT fun times. We were nervous.

For our prospective clients AND for us.

Truthfully, it has been a shaky time.
But in the last few weeks, our Anthem acceptance has soared, and it’s been really busy.

We are aware that extra expenses in the perinatal period are hard. We will always work hard to get and keep the most insurance coverage possible for you.

We also feel strongly that solid, expert lactation support is an investment.
Looking forward to 2026 to grow, learn and offer more education and opportunities to the community!

Alcohol and Breastfeeding
Dr. Jack Newman MD, FRCPC and Thomas W. Hale, R.Ph. Ph.D both believe that a mother/lactating parent can drink some alcohol and continue breastfeeding as she normally does. Dr. Jack Newman says this in his handout More Breastfeeding Myths: “Reasonable alcohol intake should not be discouraged at all. As is the case with most drugs, very little alcohol comes out in the milk. The mother can take some alcohol and continue breastfeeding as she normally does. Prohibiting alcohol is another way we make life unnecessarily restrictive for nursing mothers.”
CAN ALCOHOL DEPENDENCY/SELF-MEDICATING WITH ALCOHOL AFFECT A BREASTFED BABY?
Yes. Alcohol dependence or self-medicating with alcohol by the mother/lactating parent can result in slow weight gain or failure to thrive in their baby. Even a small to moderate amount of alcohol negatively affects the milk ejection reflex (let-down) and reduces the baby’s milk intake. The baby can suffer significant disruption to their sleep [21] or may not suck effectively leading to decreased milk intake. The baby may even suffer from delayed motor development. If you are concerned that you or someone you know is self-medicating with alcohol excessively, contact your healthcare professional or a reputable organization supporting people who are struggling with alcohol use.

You know, thinking about the holidays and the upcoming New Year- it’s a time of reflection.
It’s not that complicated for me - I just love my job. If you can call it a “job”.

Caring for families and babies is soul food for me. I’m so lucky to do the thing that has called me most of my life.
I understand that gift, not all of us can say that.

The trust I have from the thousands of infants and parents I’ve cared for over the decades is my most treasured thing.
I do not take it lightly.

Thank you to all who’ve shown up in pain, in fear, in concern - and let me in.
Guiding you through parenthood in multiple ways, has been a joy.
Focused on 2026 for learning, growth, wisdom and all the love.
Oh Baby! Is there for you.
Let us help you feed your baby your way.

Really.
I know social media tells you the opposite.
Fake full freezers full of milk.
“If you eat this cookie you’ll make allll the milk”
The messages are clear - you’re not enough if you don’t make enough.

Calling Bu****it.

Milk supply is a nuanced thing. It’s very Multi factorial, and it isn’t just about a mom’s group advice.

If you’re worried about milk supply, please see an IBCLC. We can help you figure out what’s what.
And if you don’t make a “full” milk supply?
You’re still a great mom. I promise.

And breastfeeding doesn’t have to be all or nothing - you can use your milk, donor milk, formula.
It’s all good. I promise.

We can help you navigate all that, too.
I PROMISEđŸ«¶đŸœ
You are more than your milk supply. If you’d like to learn more, don’t tolerate any ridiculous “shaming” (most of them want your money, sooo)
Come see us instead.
And you’re enough no matter how you feed your baby.
