While our summer months are by far the busiest for us, fall can feel just as hectic. We’ve been busy finishing the harvest of our crops, hauling corn, spreading manure, and prepping the fields for spring. All while keeping the farm animals happy & healthy, keeping the farm store stocked and preparing for next season.
This fall we’re rotating one of our hay fields into corn for next summer. To prepare for that, we’re plowing the existing sod which will improve the soil structure, incorporate the manure fertilizer and reduce pest & disease naturally. When spring arrives, the fields will be one step closer to being ready for planting. As you can imagine, it’s easier to work land when the fields are dry in the fall, than it is to work the land in spring when the fields are wet and overrun with water.
